John Moore trained Sterling City stormed into contention for the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint in December with victory at Group 2 level at Sha Tin on Sunday, which was an outstanding day in Asia for Inglis graduates.
Sterling City ($200,000 2010 Easter, 5g Nadeem-So Gorgeous) was backed into favouritism for the HK$3.5million Group 2 Premier Bowl and with Joao Moreira in the saddle the quality sprinter proved too good for his rivals. Bullish Champion and Charles The Great filled the placings.

“This is a tremendous thrill. I could not sleep last night because of the nervousness heading into the race. I am very happy it has ended in a great win for Sterling City,” admitted Gary Ling, who races the sprinter with his father CS Ling.
“We are very thankful to Henry Plumptre for selecting Sterling City from the Inglis Easter Sale for us. We look forward with much anticipation to December’s International Races,” Gary said.
Bred by Mr DPR Esplin and D & M Esplin Pty Ltd, Sterling City was a $200,000 purchase from the draft of Twin Palms Stud at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Sterling City has won six times and placed on another seven occasions from 15 starts. Sunday’s Group 2 was the five-year-old’s biggest win to date, taking his earnings close to HK$7 million.
Champion trainer John Moore is confident that Sterling City can measure up in December’s Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint, a race he won with fellow Easter graduate Inspiration in 2008.
“Sterling City has taken the necessary steps to be competitive at Group 1 level. He’s genuine, sound and a welcome addition to my Class 1 team,” said Moore.
