Sterling quality clear to see in Asia

The quality of Inglis graduates Sterling City and Good Sight was clear to see on Sunday as the pair saluted in Hong Kong and Malaysia’s Group level events respectively.

Good Sight ($60,000 2008 Easter II, 6g Lonhro-Belle Famille) took out the weekend’s feature event at the Selangor Turf Club, the RM500,000 Malaysian Group 1 Piala Emas Sultan Selangor over 2000m.

The son of Lonhro provided Malaysia’s favourite jockey Noel ‘King’ Callow his third straight victory in the prestigious event, including last year’s running aboard Inglis graduate Speed Baby.

Speed Baby went on to be crowned Malaysia’s Horse of the Year, an accolade that Good Sight is aiming to match in 2013.

Good Sight was a $60,000 purchase by CP Beh from the draft of Woodlands Stud in Session II of the 2008 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He has won over RM1,000,000 under the Golden Knight stable in Malaysia.

Sterling City ($200,000 2010 Easter, 4g Nadeem-So Gorgeous) then made the step to stakes winner in style, winning the Hong Kong Group 3 Premier Cup over 1400m at Sha Tin.

Ridden by young gun Tommy Berry, Sterling City defeated a top class field. Bullish Champion was second, while Inglis graduates Admiration and Time After Time filled third and fourth spots.

The John Moore trained four-year-old was a $200,000 purchase for owners Gary and CS Ling from the draft of Twin Palms Stud at the 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Sterling City has risen through the classes in Hong Kong thanks to a strong record of five wins and seven placings from 14 starts.

“He had his opportunity today to acquit himself in Group handicap company and he did that. Now for next season he’ll be gearing to run in all the big races,” said John Moore after Sunday’s win.

Five yearlings by Sterling City’s sire Nadeem and one by Good Sight’s sire Lonhro are set to go under the hammer at the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Winter Book next Sunday 23 June 2013.

The Winter Book is one of many opportunities for buyers to secure a young thoroughbred to aim higher with during the Inglis Select Yearling Sales Series.

In 2013 Inglis will also conduct Australasia’s first “select” Ready 2 Race Sale in Sydney on 3 October.

Details of the Classic Winter Book or Ready 2 Race Sale are available on the Inglis website www.inglis.com.au.
