The worst is feared for Toowoomba-based steward James Perry, who is missing after being swept away in the flash flooding that engulfed Toowoomba on Tuesday.
Dramatic footage showed Perry, 39, with his wife Jenny and nine-year-old son Ted being caught in the in land Tsunami on top of their four-wheel-drive.
His wife and son were winched to safety by helicopter, but when it returned there was no sign of Perry or the motor vehicle.
“Jenny and Ted are recuperrating in hospital,” Racing Queensland CEO Mal Tuttle said.
“We are still hoping for the best news in relation to James, but we are preparing for the worst.”
Perry did his cadetship in Sydney before taking up the post in the Central West of NSW in the mid 1990s.
He then had a stint with NSW harness racing before spending time as a steward in Korea which led into his current role in the Darling Downs.
