4th May 2015
The 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale moved into the Select Broodmare Session on Monday when 138 lots were sold for $6,878,600.
Competition was intense on the better quality offerings with local, interstate and overseas investors bidding on mares up to $605,000 and pushing a share in proven stallion Sebring to $350,000.
“There certainly isn’t a lack of buyers here after quality mares and to vendors who have supported the sale it is pleasing to see many of the better lots sell for considerably more that the offers they were receiving on the private sale market before this week’s auction,” said Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster.
“Plenty of breeders are here to re-invest after a great yearling sales season, highlighting what a great opportunity this sale offers to vendors willing to offer their best broodmares and race fillies here in Sydney in May,” added Webster.
Lot 274 set the precedent for strong competition on the first day of the broodmare section of the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale when knocked down to Henderson Racing & Breeding / Cook Bloodstock QLD for $150,000. From the draft of Kitchwin Hills, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice is out of Group 1 performer Vormista making her a full sister to Group 1 Blue Diamond runner-up Reemah.
The two highest priced Lots today were purchased by Yu Long Investments, which shot them to the top of the buyers’ table by both average and aggregate.
Lot 286, Flame Of Sydney, the stakes-winning dam of Group 3 winner Not Listenin’tome was sold in foal to Snitzel for $605,000 from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. Later in the day Fastnet Rock’s Group 3 winning daughter Neena Rock (Lot 456) was knocked down for $500,000 when offered by Edinglassie Stud.
“International appeal has been strong throughout our Select Yearling Sales Series and again here this week we’ve seen new international players enter the Australian bloodstock market, with the top two mares today secured for a China based client of Inglis’ for commercial breeding purposes here in Australia,” said Webster.
Alan Bell purchased the dam of Group 2 winner Toydini from Goodwood Farm for $280,000. Johan’s Toy Lot 351, who was herself a stakes winner, was sold in foal to Dundeel from a September service last season.
“I would like to thank John Baxter of Ruane for offering his breeding stock here today. John achieved great success as a breeder for over 25 years and we both look forward to watching the new owners of his stock enjoy similar success,” added Webster.
Ruane sold 24 mares and two stallion shares to complete their Unreserved Dispersal for the Baxter family leaving them in the lead of vendors by aggregate at the end of Day Two, amassing $1,299,350. Their broodmare draft was topped by the imposing Anabaa mare Marchelle Belle (Lot 378). The stakes-winning mare, carrying a September cover to Sebring, is out of Life Goes On Oh and sold to South Australia’s Goldin Farm for $220,000.
Now occupying the property formerly known as Lindsay Park, the Pan Su Tong owned Goldin Farms spent an additional $340,000 on a total of three mares to add to his band, the majority of which will support the farm’s resident stallion Akeed Mofeed.
Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock Agency was also active spending $630,000 on eight mares, and another $350,000 on a share in Sebring offered from Ruane.
New Zealand buyers active at yesterday’s weanling sale returned for the broodmare session headed by Paul Willetts who outlaid $484,000 on seven mares including stakes-producing mare One In A Million (Lot 466) from Amarina Farm for $170,000.
Leading vendors by average (3 or more sold) at the end of Day Two are Arrowfield Stud, selling four Lots at an average of $160,125.
Other vendors to make over $200,000 (3 or more sold) are Bell View Park Stud, Coolmore Stud, Amarina Farm, Kitchwin Hills and Newhaven Park.
Horses passed in during today’s session are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.
The remaining two days of the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale will kick off at 10.30am, and will be broadcast on Inglis Sale Day Live, plus Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer will again be available.
