Strong Competition at Summer Thoroughbred Sale

The strong level of competition at Inglis Mixed Sales continued at today’s Summer Thoroughbred Sale at Newmarket, where the 94% clearance rate propelled gross turnover to more than $800,000.

In all, 125 horses changed hands, with just eight being passed in through the day.

The top priced lot came among the unreserved reduction from Luskin Park Stud, with the Night Shift mare Felicity selling for $105,000 with an outstanding Lonhro filly foal at foot. The mare, who is already the dam of stakes placed Beatitude, was also carrying a positive test to Stratum.

Lonhro also featured in the second highest priced lot of the day, with Redoute’s Choice mare Rose Artist selling to Lindsay Park carrying a foal by the red hot former Horse of the Year.

Cossack Warrior mare Mezdorf, dam of tomorrow’s fancied Rosehill runner Dorf’s Command (Commands),was sold for $65,000 with a Danewin sister-in-blood to the Clarry Conners trained stakes winner at foot.

Just as there was good competition for well related mares, buyers also lined up to buy racehorse prospects, with the multiple Sydney winner Xavier topping this section at $26,000.

Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy said the sale results were a positive indicator for the industry.

“We were very pleased with the competition on the majority of horses today,” D’Arcy said.

“Provincial and country racing is obviously in good shape given the excellent competition for tried racehorses.”

D’Arcy also pointed out the growing base for online business, with 36% of the horses offered today attracting an online bid, with a total of 8% being sold online.

The next Inglis Sale will be the December Thoroughbred Saleat Oaklands on December 18.
