Strong Demand at Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale

The 2011 Inglis Melbourne August Thoroughbred Sale came to a conclusion at Oaklands this evening, with just under $1.4 million traded during the day’s session of unbroken and racing stock.

In all, 171 horses were sold today for a total of $1,391,550.

The session was topped by well-related mare Super Swell (Lot 242), a half-sister to Group 1 SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes winner Bel Mer, when selling to clients of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds for $90,000. The mare will be sent to Bel Mer and Black Caviar’s sire Bel Espirt this coming breeding season.

Lightly raced Tale Of The Cat gelding Cosmic Bolt (Lot 321) also generated spirited bidding before being knocked down for $80,000.

“There was great competition amongst the local, interstate and international buyers at Oaklands today, underlined by the excellent 93% clearance rate”, Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.

“In addition to the well-received Darley Reduction, the better performed racehorses and well-bred fillies in the catalogue all sold very well”

“It was also pleasing to see race fillies and mares sold to clients from Thailand and the Philippines, adding to the mares’ in-foal they secured yesterday”.

“Thanks to the growing support from vendors and buyers, this sale has cemented itself as one of the most important of its type on the Australasian calendar”.

Horses passed in over the past two days, including Group 3 winner Marheta, are still available for sale via the Make an Offer Service.

Attention now turns to Inglis’ Scone Broodmare Sale to be held in the Hunter Valley next Friday August 26, just prior to the start of the upcoming Breeding Season. Scone catalogue can be viewed HERE.
