Strong Mare Trade Opens Inglis Breeding Stock Sale

A $1.2million price for Golden Slipper winner Polar Success highlighted a successful opening to the 2009 Inglis Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale, where close to $6million was traded.

The Select Broodmare Session saw 94 fillies and mares sell for a gross of $5,668,250 at an average of $60,300 and clearance of 77%.

Polar Success was sold through the draft of Twin Palms Stud as part of the Johnson Family Dispersal and knocked down to Inglis as Agent for a locally based client.

Already the dam of stakes placed Polaway (Giant’s Causeway), the daughter of Success Express was offered with a positive test to young Darley stallion Bernardini.

The Twin Palms draft comprised the top seven lots for the day and finished with an overall gross of $3.8million at an average of better than $190,000.

Other highlights included a winning $420,000 bid by Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud for the Timber Country mare Brave And Bold, a three-quarter-sister to G2 winner Timbourina carrying a positive test to Exceed And Excel.

Japan’s Katsumi Yoshida gave $380,000 for the Capote mare Trick Taker (in foal to Encosta De Lago), while the Group 2 winning, G1 placed Mossman mare Segments sold for $320,000 in foal to Bernardini.

“It was a pleasing day of selling, 14 mares sold for $100,000 or more and the Johnson Family result again underlined the demand for quality mares in the marketplace at the moment,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster said.

The sale continues with the Weanling Session tomorrow from 10am.

“We had the New Sire Showcase this morning, televised live on TVN and the program will be replayed several more times this evening and again tomorrow morning ahead of the Select Weanling session,” Webster said.

“Tomorrow’s catalogue features progeny by all of the leading sires and as highlighted in the Showcase, some exciting newcomers, so there is sure to be weanlings to suit all buyers.”

Horses passed in during today’s session are available for sale via the Inglis Make an Offer service.

Online Bidding and the Inglis Sale Day live broadcast will again be in operation right throughout tomorrow’s session.
