Strong start to Sydney Carnival for Easter graduates

Easter Sale graduates Samaready, Single and Colorado Claire made strong winning starts to the Sydney Carnival at Rosehill today, with the trio aiming towards bigger riches in the coming months.

Samaready ($150,000 2011 Easter, 2f More Than Ready-Samar) is now a short $2.50 favourite for the world’s richest two-year-old race, the $3.5million ATC Golden Slipper, in two weeks’ time following her dominant win in the Group Two ATC Resiling Stakes today.

The daughter of More Than Ready was settled near the back of the small field under Craig Newitt, slid up four wide around the Rosehill turn before scooting past Snitzerland and racing away to a two length victory over Hussousa and Meidung.

The last start Blue Diamond winner clocked 1:12.05 for today’s 1200m task, slightly quicker than the Todman Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings earlier in the day.

Bred by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, Samaready was sold at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $150,000 to Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock on behalf of a number of people involved in Vinery Stud, which stand her sire More Than Ready.

The very next race four-year-old galloper Single ($25,000 2009 Easter, 4g High Chaparral-Myself) proved that top quality gallopers are available within all budgets at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale when scoring in the Listed ATC Sky High Stakes.

The son of High Chaparral was plucked from the 2009 Easter draft of Kia Ora Stud for just $25,000, and despite over-racing and wanting to lay in had too much raw ability for today’s field to take his record to six wins from ten starts and career prizemoney to $244,400.

Trainer Craig Carmody is hoping the improving galloper can gain a light weight start into the $2million Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 14.

Later on in the day Colorado Claire ($220,000 2010 Easter, 3f Hussonet-Lunaspur) made the steep step to Group Two winner when defeating fellow Easter graduate Rekindled Alliance in the ATC Phar Lap Stakes for three-year-olds over 1500m.

Bred by Arrowfield Stud and sold from their 2010 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale draft for $220,000 to Bill Mitchell on behalf of owner David Paradice, the daughter of Hussonet has amassed $225,000 in prizemoney for her five wins from just seven starts so far.

Trainer John O’Shea indicated that Colorado Claire, having been paid up into the lucrative Inglis Race Series, would be aimed at the $500,000 Inglis Guineas over 1400m at Scone on Saturday May 19.

The 96th edition of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, the source of Samaready, Single and Colorado Claire, will be held in Sydney on April 10 to 12.
