Booming trade for the largest catalogue in ten-years meant across the board gains at the William Inglis Summer thoroughbred sale at Newmarket on Friday, with records set in all categories.
Talented galloper Kill The Cat was the sale highlight commanding a new sale record price of $82,500 to dissolve a partnership from Lee Curtis’s Rosehill stables.
Existing stakeholders Michael Smith and Ray Chensee were the successful bidders, signing as Blue Foreshores.
“He’s a sensational galloper and beautiful horse,” said Smith afterwards. “We’re really happy to get him back.”
The gelding’s new trainer has not been decided.
Overall, the 183 lots sold generated a record gross of $944,700 at an average of $5,162, smashing the previous record turnover of $788,050 for 219 horses set in 1996 and last year’s record average of $3,932.
Inglis Director Jonathan D’Arcy was delighted with the results.
“It was great to see such strong competition in every category with broodmares selling extremely well and the large number of yearlings also in demand,” he said.
“The racehorse section continues to strengthen with buyers present from most parts of Australia resulting in an excellent clearance rate of over 93% ensuring plenty of satisfied vendors.”
