Sweet Tart wins G1 Queensland Oaks

Jorson Farm’s Julie Brown says Egg Tart “never stood out in the crowd’’ as a young horse, but that couldn’t be further from the truth now.

Egg Tart (Sebring x Mrs Windsor) announced herself as the latest staying star of Australian racing with a dominant victory in Saturday’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Doomben.

The 3YO filly made it six consecutive wins from just eight career starts when destroying her opposition in the feature staying event.

Egg Tart was a $40,000 bargain buy for Anton Koolman Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, from the Jorson Farm draft of Tony and Julie Brown.

Of Egg Tart, Julie remembers “pulling her out of her mum’s belly’’ but it wasn’t always a guarantee Egg Tart was destined for the top.

“She was always an athletic filly with a nice hip on her but she wasn’t a big, strong, heavy filly, plus she was a late foal,’’ Julie Brown said.

“She was a filly who never stood out in the crowd but I reckon she stands out pretty well now!’’

Julie’s husband Tony was equally ecstatic after the Oaks.

“They don’t win six in a row very often. Only the good ones can do that.’’

Today’s win took Egg Tart’s career earnings to almost $800,000.

She will be set for a possible Cups campaign in the spring, via the Epsom Handicap.

Last year’s Queensland Oaks winner Provocative sold for $1.2m at this year’s The Chairman’s Sale Session II – Elite Breeding Prospects.

Still in Brisbane and Deploy’s connections will consider paying a $45,000 late acceptance fee to back up in next Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Hcp after winning today’s Group 2 Moreton Cup at Doomben.

Deploy (Fastnet Rock x Crimson Reign) is one of the most consistent horses in training, finishing in the placings at 12 of his 13 career starts, with today’s victory his sixth overall.

The 4YO was paid up for the Stradbroke until this week, when connections opted not to stay in the running for the race, but may now change their mind given he is guaranteed a start.

Deploy was a $450,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale buy for Segenhoe Stud from the draft of Torryburn Stud.

Meanwhile Rock Magic made it back-to-back Stakes successes when claiming the Group 3 Belmont Sprint in Perth.

The win took the 7YO son of Redoute’s Choice and Rockabubble’s career earnings to over $1million from 39 starts, which has featured an amazing 14 wins.

Rock Magic is a graduate of the 2011 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Arrowfield Stud.

Inglis’ next sale is the Great Southern Sale at Oaklands Junction in Melbourne from June 18-21.
