Trainer Mark Kavanagh remains unperturbed by another horror barrier draw for his star three-year-old Whobegotyou ahead of Saturday’s Emirates Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick.
Last spring’s The Age Caulfield Guineas winner has drawn 13 of 13 and 10 of 14 in his two Sydney starts this campaign and has come up with the outside gate 19 for Saturday’s $2,000,000 feature.
“He’ll be last anyway so for him it’s fairly irrelevant. We just have to look on the bright side,” said Kavanagh at today’s barrier draw.
Whobegotyou ran a slashing first up second in the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at his Sydney debut before being bogged down on the heavy track when ninth behind Vision And Power at his most recent appearance in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on 4 April.
In what proved to be a mixed day for Victoria’s leading chances, Mick Price’s Doncaster hope Alamosa drew alongside Whobegotyou in gate 18. But in better news, Rick Hore-Lacy’s lightweight hope and last year’s Doncaster placegetter Pinnacles drew gate 4 while David Hayes’ hope Largo Lad will jump from five.
Race favourite All Silent, which will be ridden by champion jockey Damien Oliver, also fared poorly and will start from gate 16.
