Australian Racing Board - Press Release - Monday, 27 July 2009

A meeting of industry participants will take place in Sydney on Friday. The Australian Racing Board understands that the purpose of the meeting is to exchange information on the challenges facing the industry and in particular the future funding model. While this is not an industry sanctioned event the Australian Racing Board appreciates the support of industry participants and will be interested in the outcomes of this Friday’s meeting.

NSW Racing faces challenges to both the legitimacy of the race fields legislation and the method and rate of the charge. The Australian Racing Board recognises that these are crucial matters for the future funding of the industry, however the outcome of these challenges may not be known for some time.

At its meeting in June the Australian Racing Board determined to approach the Federal Government to seek their support for a national approach to secure the industry’s future. This approach involving all principal racing authorities in Australia is a crucial element of the Australian Racing Board’s strategy.

All the members of the Australian Racing Board are committed to securing the future funding of this important industry through the leadership of the ARB.
