The Mike Moroney stable walked away with the spoils at Seymour today, after Testa Rossa gelding Sophrosyne scooped the pool in the rich Chatswood Vase Inglis Bonus Series 3YO Handicap.
With Chatswood Stud and SUPER VOBIS throwing their support behind the race, horses eligible for the Inglis $50,000 bonus were racing for a total prizemoney pool of $130,000 in the Restricted 0-78 1300m event.
SOPHROSYNE ($21,000 2008 Classic, 3g Testa Rossa-Polenista, by Polish Precedent) had won roughly his purchase price prior to today's race, but took his earnings well beyond the $100,000 mark with this win.
The gelding, who was offered for sale by Fairview Park, races in the same colours as his illustrious sire Testa Rossa (pictured) and the Moroney stable will now look at some stronger races after he made it two wins in four starts.
Mike Moroney was thrilled with the outcome and quipped that the lightly raced youngster was racing for just as much money as his Group 1 winner Mr Baritone was in yesterday's star-studded Group 2 Warwick Stakes.
Inglis Director Peter Heagney was at Seymour and said it was a thrilling result for all involved.
"Inglis is very pleased to support country racing and for a $21,000 graduate to pick up roughly $100,000 in a Sunday restricted race at Seymour is a fantastic outcome," he said.
"I know the Moroneys have a good opinion of this horse and hopefully he can continue to improve ... but this is a nice start for connections!"
The next race in the $2.5M Inglis Race Series comes up at Flemington on September 5, where a $100,000 Bonus is up for contention.
