Testa Rossa Strikes Again

Breednet - Mark Smith - Saturday, 27 August 2011

There's nothing quite like a brace of stakes-winners on the eve of a new breeding season and Vinery Stud's Testa Rossa struck gold again when the consistent gelding Testascana earned his first stakes success in Saturday's Listed National Jockeys Celebration Day Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield.

It was the third consecutive victory for the Peter Moody-trained 5yo who advanced his overall record to 9 wins,4seconds and 1 third from 17 starts for earnings of $259,514.

"He has turned out to be a great little money spinner,” Moody said. "He has had a pretty solid campaign but we probably have got to have a look again and see how he pulls up.

"Each time we have been to the races for the last couple, we thought this might have been it for the prep but he is very resilient.”

Bred by Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds, Testascana was knocked down to Moody for $85,000 from the Rosemont Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling sale.

He is the second foal of the multiple metropolitan winning Snippets mare Tuscanna a descendent of the Ingham family's grand producer Todd Lass (Todman), the dam of VRC Sires' Produce Stakes (G1) and Blue Diamond Stakes (G1) winner Street cafe and the granddam of All Aged Stakes (G1) winner Paratroopers and multiple Listed winner and Group 1 placed Identikit.

Purchased by Ramsay Pastoral for $32,000 in 2008, Tuscanna has had a troubled time of it in the last few years. Her 2008 foal by Zizou had to be destroyed and she missed to the same stallion in 2009. She was covered by the son of Fusaichi Pegasus again last year.

Testascana becomes the 37th stakes-winner for Vinery Stud's Testa Rossa who stands this season for a fee of $44,000.
