Inglis Sires contender Gunnison – the equal second-highest rated 2YO male in Australia – is the latest entry for Thursday’s inaugural The Chairman’s Sale Session I (Elite Racing Prospects) at Newmarket.
Gunnison (Not A Single Doubt x Colorado Claire) has raced only twice, winning comfortably on a firm track on debut before scoring a tough victory in heavy conditions in the Group 2 Todman Stakes at Randwick three weeks ago.
His Todman win came in a faster time than Golden Slipper quinella Frolic and She Will Reign ran in the Reisling Stakes on the same day.
The undefeated start to his career has seen the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Gunnison earn a Timeform Rating of 115, behind only Blue Diamond runner-up Pariah in the Australian male juvenile rankings.
Most recently Gunnison won a barrier trial last Wednesday, beating Group 2-winning sprinter Tycoon Tara by two lengths, a mare he would be giving 9.5kg to at Weight For Age.
Gunnison remains the most expensive Not A Single Doubt ever sold – James Harron paid $850,000 for him at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale – and Harron insisted the decision to put him up for sale was a tough one.
“He’s a sensational physical but at this stage we are purely focused on stallion prospects, so as a gelding he just does not fit in with our program,’’ Harron said.
“But I can genuinely tell you that Peter thinks this horse is a huge chance on Saturday in the Group 1 Inglis Sires.’’
Snowden confirmed that view.
“Gunnison has gone from strength to strength since being gelded, I believe him to have improved again since the Todman and I feel he is a genuine winning chance in the Inglis Sires.’’
There will be a full set of Hong Kong X-rays and video scope for Gunnison lodged in the repository.
Gunnison joins a quality list of entries for the boutique Chairman’s Sale Session I.
Also being offered are Sydney Cup contender Chance To Dance, Adrian Knox entrant Fallacy and 26.25% of Oaks-bound filly Moqueen, each of which will run during The Championships.
Other entries include Stakes-placed 2YO Eden Roc, 25% of Group 2-winning 3YO Man From Uncle and 30% of Group performer Land Of Plenty.
The Chairman’s Sale Session I (Elite Racing Prospects) begins at 6pm Thursday at Inglis’ Sydney Newmarket precinct.
Entries for the sale must close 10am today.
