Third Group One win for leading filly Mosheen

Easter filly Mosheen recorded her third Group One victory on Saturday, continuing Inglis graduates domination of the $500,000 ATC Randwick Guineas (1600m) with a tenacious win over Said Com and Laser Hawk.

The VRC Oaks and Australian Guineas winner settled in the second half of the field, working her way through the pack up the Randwick rise before unleashing her trademark turn of foot at the 100m mark to flash past her rivals to take out the feature event for three-year-olds.

Mosheen took her earnings past $2.3million with today’s win, her sixth from 13 starts, with trainer Robert Smerdon declaring the daughter of Fastnet Rock one the best horses he has ever trained.

“She’s got that great turn of foot. I think that’s what separates these horses. She’s done it right handed, left handed, she’s beaten the boys so she’s done everything we’ve thrown at her,” Smerdon said after the race.

The $250,000 Easter sale buy is the fifth winner of the Randwick Guineas in the last six running’s to have been purchased at an Inglis select yearling sale, following the victories of Ilovethiscity, Metal Bender, Weekend Hussler and Mentality.

Bred by Bylong Park Thoroughbreds Mosheen ($250,000 2010 Easter, 3f Fastnet Rock-Sumehra) was purchased by Troy Corstens and John Sadler as a yearling for owner Phil Sly, who now races the gallant filly with leading Japanese owner and breeder Katsumi Yoshida.

Bylong Park will offer Mosheen’s yearling half-brother by Zabeel at this year’s Easter Sale as Lot 413.

Mosheen’s Randwick victory was the third Group success for the progeny of Fastnet Rock in twenty-four hours, following the Group Two win of Highly Recommended at Moonee Valley on Friday night and Group Three win of Jade Marauder at Randwick earlier on Saturday. All three winners were sold at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Fastnet Rock has produced five Group One winners from the Easter Sale, and the son of Danehill is extremely well represented with 50 yearlings in the 2012 catalogue.
