Three Day Classic Sale Moves to February

5th May 2005

Due to popular demand the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale will be expanded to include three sessions in 2006, conducted over successive days on February 12, 13 and 14 at the Newmarket complex in Sydney.

“The first two days will showcase the traditional Classic catalogue of approximately 480 lots, while the final day of selling will feature an additional 150 yearlings accepted at a lesser entry fee,” said Inglis Executive Director, Jonathan D’Arcy.

All yearlings including those offered on the third day will be stabled at Newmarket for pre-sale inspections and the duration of the sale. Every yearling sold over the three days will be eligible to compete in the $500,000 Inglis Classic of 2007.

“Horses accepted into this new extra session will receive every marketing benefit of being offered at the Classic Yearling Sale and we anticipate good vendor support for this initiative,” added D’Arcy.

The 2005 Classic Yearling Sale was a resounding success, achieving a new record gross of $14,438,954 (up7%) while maintaining a solid average price of $34,792.

A dozen horses fetched $100,000 or more highlighted by the half-sister by Langfuhr (Can) to top class mare Ain’t Seen Nothin’ which made $190,000 to the bid of Barbara Joseph.

The $500,000 Inglis Classic for graduates of this year’s sale will be contested at Rosehill for the first time in 2006 on Saturday February 11, the day before the Classic Yearling Sale begins. Also on the program will be the STC Expressway Stakes Gr 2 making for a sensational day’s racing.

“The Classic Yearling Sale has become a great favourite with trainers and bloodstock agents, proving time and again that you don’t have to spend a fortune here to pick up a really good horse. Silent Witness is the obvious standout in this regard, purchased from Classic in 2001 for just $55,000,” said D’Arcy.
