Three lots realise $200,000 or more in strong Inglis Digital sale

Promising 3YO How Rude (Snitzel) topped today’s Inglis Digital October (Late) Sale, selling to Nocab Racing and Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $250,000.

The well related filly, who was offered by her breeder and owner Go Bloodstock, is out of G1-winning 2YO Ruud Awakening and is thus a three-quarter sister to Group-winning 2YO Rise Of The Masses and half sister to high class filly Kundalini.

Go Bloodstock’s Steve O’Connor admitted it was rare for Sir Owen Glenn to offer such a well bred filly for sale but given his delight with today’s outcome, suggested it could likely happen more regularly in the future.

“We are delighted with the price, there was some very spirited bidding there, it was really exciting to sit back and watch it all unfold,’’ O’Connor said.

“We were always hopeful she’d make somewhere around that mark and it’s great to see it transpire in such a transparent way.

“This is all a bit of a new strategy for Sir Owen, we’re just getting in control of the numbers in our broodmare band going forward. We wouldn’t usually sell a filly like her but we still own mum and three siblings and to get such a fantastic result like this was just outstanding.

“Sir Owen is committed to the industry, we have certain goals and we have a lot of pride in our broodmare portfolio. That said, you’ve got to control the numbers so moving forward there will be more nice fillies like How Rude pop up for sale on Inglis Digital when we have other members of the family.’’

Kestrel’s Bruce Slade was hopeful of purchasing How Rude for less than $250,000 but was still thrilled to have won the bidding duel on behalf of Nocab Racing’s Steve and Tina Bacon and their families.

“It’s a real credit to Inglis Digital to be honest,’’ Slade said.

“I looked through the history of fillies that were rated the same as this one - with big pedigrees that may be unraced or lightly raced – and that model showed she should be in the $220k-$250k range, so I thought that being the end of October, over halfway through the breeding season, it may see us get her at a bit of a discount but we didn’t. We had to pay full price for her and that comes down to the strength of the Inglis Digital platform.

“The Bacon family is building a really boutique broodmare band and she’ll be added to that down the track.’’

Slade confirmed How Rude would be transferred to Tony Gollan’s Brisbane stable and continue her immediate racing career in Queensland.

Today’s second-top lot was the Newgate Farm-offered mare Ariaz – in foal to Extreme Choice – which sold to Eddie Temple for $205,000.

“We’re really pleased with the outcome and really pleased for Extreme Choice that his deserved popularity continues,’’ Newgate’s Jim Carey said.

“He’s just a freak of a stallion who keeps producing quality and Stakes winners at a rate that no other stallion in the Southern Hemisphere can, so it’s no surprise to see Ariaz prove so popular.

“The new season 2YO Bel Merci’s win in the recent G3 Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick was just another example of the type of horse Extreme Choice can produce, he just keeps doing it every season.

“We wish Ariaz’s new owners all the best and hope both the mare and foal prove great successes for them moving forward.’’

Temple added: “When a nice mare like Ariaz in foal to this great stallion in Extreme Choice came on the market, I was always going to get involved. I had my assistant Mr Troop inspect the mare and she was in good health at Newgate Farm and I look forward to seeing what foal she has in a months’ time.

“They say the art of good business is being a good middleman and that’s why Inglis Digital is so good.’’

Today’s third-top lot was West Indies, the lightly raced 3YO who will line up in next Saturday’s G1 Victoria Derby at Flemington.

Offered by Coolmore, West Indies was purchased by John Galvin’s Fortuna Limited for $200,000.

He will be transferred to Mark Walker’s stable for the remainder of his career, having finished 4^th in the G3 Caulfield Classic last weekend.

“I’m a bit shocked at how much I had to pay, we generally stick to quite a tight budget but I really wanted him so I was happy to go the extra mile,’’ Galvin said.

“Mark Walker and I always look at the Inglis Digital site together each sale, we’ve bought a lot of horses off the site over the years and this guy really caught our attention. We thought he’d make an ideal Derby horse so we thought we’d have a crack and see if we could get him and we did, albeit for more than the planned budget.’’

Coolmore’s John Kennedy said: “That’s a fantastic result for us, a fantastic result for Inglis and a fantastic result for the new owners.

“Inglis Digital continues to produce quality results like this for Coolmore and our partners and we couldn’t be happier. We wish John all the best with West Indies in the Derby and beyond.’’

In total the October (Late) Sale resulted in five horses realising $100,000 or more, taking to 99 the number of seven-figure lots sold through Inglis Digital this year.

Today’s sale grossed $2,535,550.

Entries are now open for the November (Early) Sale, which will run from November 1-6.

Inglis Digital’s ongoing graduate success was again on display today when Saint Emilion (Snitzel) won the Listed Geelong Classic.

A 25% share in the Ciaron Maher-trained 3YO colt sold in last week’s October (Early) Sale for $6500.

Saint Emilion is now a $10 prospect with Ladbrokes for the G1 Victoria Derby at Flemington in 10 days.
