Timely Inglis Classic Win For Lady Jivago

The trophy for the $250,000 RL Inglis Classic race will head north with the Wyong trained filly Lady Jivago finishing best to take out the lucrative Inglis Race Series event at Rosehill on Saturday.

Prepared by NSW provincial trainer Jeff Englebrecht, Lady Jivago (Beneteau x Hussterics) fought out a close finish to the 1200m two-year-old event defeating Ideal Express by a length from Serenade and the favourite Odyssey Moon.

“I’ve always been a bit steady with her, she’s always given more and I didn’t know where the bottom of her was,” said Englebrecht.

“I was concerned with going to 1200m and our plan was to sit back a little bit and just wait until the straight and she ran on really well so there might be exciting times ahead,” Englebrecht said.

Lady Jivago earned her connections $150,000 first place prizemoney plus a $20,000 BOBS bonus for the Inglis Classic victory today. The result is a tremendous return on the $14,000 outlayed for the filly at the 2014 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Winter Book when purchased from the draft of Luskin Park.

Managing owners Dr Yule Crosson and his wife Susan are responsible for selecting Lady Jivago as a yearling. Mrs Crosson used her experience as a professional sprinter in the selection process.

“We wanted to be a part of the whole process so we came to the Classic sale and we were drawn to her movement, we thought her legs looked like the sprinting type,” Mrs Crossan said.

Lady Jivago continues the dominance of fillies in the Inglis Classic race, following previous victors Peggy Jean, Cavalry Rose, Pane In The Glass and Chance Bye.

Thanks to Inglis’ great partners Jeff Englebrecht received a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars valued at $3,000, plus jockey Grant Buckley and managing owner Dr Yule Crosson received an exclusive piece of Antler Luggage valued at $544.

“With the cheque we might have to go to the sales again tomorrow,” Englebrecht said.

Due to increased vendor support the 2015 Inglis Classic Sale will be conducted over three days starting on Sunday. 574 lots have been catalogued, including six lots by Beneteau, the sire of Lady Jivago.
