Top Mare Back with a Bang

Set For Fame led off a two-state stakes double for Inglis Premier graduates when she cruised to a dominant first up win at Caulfield this afternoon.

The win gave Inglis graduates three of the first five races on the big Caulfield Cup program, following the earlier wins by weanling buys Mr Chard and Alotta Spur.

SET FOR FAME ($75,000 2008 Premier, 4m Reset-Northpoint) completed a winning double for the Peter Moody-Luke Nolen combination when beating the boys in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m).

The Reset mare, who was sold by Fulmen Park, had already racked up $500,000 in earnings prior to today and this added another $120,000 to the tally. It was her third Group 2 success and fourth stakes win this calendar year.

Moody flagged a potential Group 1 tilt in Perth later in the year.

“She was another one of my team that went through the virus in Sydney,” he said.

“We had to stop, start again and we got a Group 2 out of her. She spelled really well and she's back on top of her game now.

“We will probably head to Flemington now. What race, I'm not 100 per cent sure, but you never know, she could end up in a race like the (G1) Railway in Perth.”

Consistent mare ABOUT READY (P$40,000 2007 Premier, 5m More Than Ready-Quiz About) later completed a two-state stakes double for Premier graduates when winning the Listed Durbridge Stakes in Adelaide.

An Ealing Park graduate, About Ready is now the winner of five races in just 13 starts for earnings topping $220,000.

Inglis Weanlings Continue Winning Run

Fresh off Group 1 wins by Secret Admirer and Yosei this month, Inglis weanling graduates opened up with a winning double at the big Caulfield Cup meeting today.

ALOTTA SPUR ($200,000 2008 Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale, 3f Jet Spur-Gold Lottey) made amends for her unlucky fourth at Moonee Valley recently in winning the D’Urban Plate (1400m).

The filly was secured out of the First Season Sire Showcase from the Murulla Stud draft by Mark Pilkington Bloodstock.

“We're looking at a Listed race on (Melbourne) Cup day, but we'll be realistic. I think she is going to make into a good filly and a Stakes quality filly. I genuinely believe she's going to be better on top of the ground but we'll take it today,” winning trainer Peter Moody said.

MR CHARD ($2500 2008 Australian Select Weanling, 3c Al Samer-Najar), purchased from the same sale out of the Emirates Park draft, was rewarded for a near miss last time when winning the Listed Hoyts Food Spices Stakes.

“He's been thereabouts and at Caulfield two runs ago, he had absolutely no luck at all. Every other start this time in he's been fantastic.” trainer Dean Lawson said.

“We'll go to the Carbine Club (at Flemington) in two weeks and then he'll probably have a break. I'm sure he'll be better in the autumn.”

$700K Filly’s Shining Debut

SATIN SHOES ($700,000 2010 Easter 2f Flying Spur-Star Satire) announced herself as a potential topliner when she made a most impressive debut to win the City Tattersalls Plate at Randwick.

The filly raced greenly in the final stages but still proved too strong in getting the better of fellow Easter graduate Anevay.

Sold by Cressfield and purchased by De Burgh Equine, the Clarry Conners trained Satin Shoes is from Star Satire, who was the top rated filly in New Zealand in 2000-01.

A daughter of Volksraad, Star Satire was a Group 1 winner and at stud has already produced the dual Group 2 winner Zarzuela.
