TRANS TASMAN GROUP SUCCESS FOR INGLIS GRADUATES

15th Feb 2008

Inglis sale graduates enjoyed a successful weekend in major races in Australia and New Zealand today.

Sound Journey ($6,000 March Mixed Sale yearling, 3 c Good Journey – Written By Sound) led home an Inglis 1,2,3 when landing the Alister Clark Stakes (Gr 2) over 1600m at Moonee Valley. Having come through his grades in the country, Sound Journey stepped up to Group class with aplomb and held off the late charge from Playwright ($75,000 Premier yearling) to score. Schilling ($42,000 Premier yearling) was close up in third.

"I've always had a good opinion of him, he just needs to settle," winning trainer Mick Price said. "I would've run him in the Sandown Guineas but he had pharyngitis.

Canadian Grade One winner Good Journey (USA) has three lots catalogued in the Premier Yearling sale including a filly out of the South African Champion racemare Battle Maiden, her first foal.

Across the Tasman and Ransom Express ($75,000 Australian Easter yearling, 2 c Red Ransom – Diamond Hill) confirmed the promise he displayed on debut when racing away with the Ford 2yo Classic (Gr 3) in impressive fashion at Pukekura raceway. "Not many horses step up from a maiden win to win a Group Three like that," said trainer Mark Walker, sentiments echoed by winning jockey Opie Bosson.

International Group One sire Red Ransom (USA) has eight entries in the Premier Sale including a half-brother to the English Group Two winner Best Alibi.

Gai Waterhouse declared Bank Robber ($70,000 Premier yearling, 3 g Dash For Cash - Saliah) classic bound after another impressive win, this time in the Randwick Betting Auditorium Handicap over 1400m. "It's his first preparation so now I will start programming some more serious races for him, there's no reason he won't go to races like the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas.” Waterhouse enthused afterwards. "He's certainly shaping to be an exciting Derby prospect, he relaxes so well."

Swettenham Stud’s young Group One winner Dash For Cash has 13 yearlings entered in the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale that commences on March 2.

Other Inglis graduates to score in the metropolitan area today included Skiddaw Peak ($65,000 Classic yearling) who won the first race at Moonee Valley, Triple Honour ($50,000 Classic yearling) and Scorched Earth ($190,000 Australian Easter yearling) who both won at Royal Randwick.
