Travelling Upstacker takes trophy at Sale

The decision by Hawkesbury trainer Joan Pracey to chase the great prizemoney on offer in the Inglis Race Series paid big dividends 1,000 kms away today, with Upstacker winning the $100,000 Inglis Trophy (1400m) at Sale in Victoria.

Today’s victory over Spot On Maggie and Bladon was the second win for UPSTACKER ($18,000 2010 Classic, 3c Strategic-Pihikan) in the lucrative Inglis Race Series this year, after the colt scored a $50,000 Inglis Bonus at Hawkesbury in April.

Upstacker has put Pracey in a very good position to take out the $50,000 Trainer Bonus that is awarded to the trainer with the most wins each Inglis Race Series, with the colt now be aimed at the series ending Inglis Guineas (1400m) at Scone next May.

The Classic bargain purchase has now won $110,000 in Inglis Race Series prizemoney and bonuses for his connections, who today were also been presented a $50,000 Inglis yearling sales voucher from Super VOBIS, that can be redeemed on a Super VOBIS qualified yearling purchase at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Premier or Melbourne Autumn Yearling Sales.

Inglis will provide free entry to the $2.6million Inglis Race Series for the horse purchased using the voucher.

“We’ve had a lot of confidence in this horse, but we’ve been trying to follow the Inglis Bonuses as horses such as this can pick up fantastic prizemoney,” trainer Joan Pracey said after the win.

“We arrived [from Hawkesbury] on Tuesday, he didn’t travel too well, but settled in the last few days and the people here at Sale have been magnificent.

“He [Upstacker] has been on the track a few times and the club allowed us to gallop him here on Thursday which helped. We are just thrilled”.

Prior to the Strategic colt’s win at Hawkesbury Pracey had agreed with connections that they would head to the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale should they win the race, which they did, purchasing a grey filly the same sire as Upstacker.

Congratulated on TVN and asked whether they’ll be back at the Inglis yearlings sales again in 2012 Pracey commented “thank you, we’ll definitely be buying another one”.

The sale that Upstacker was purchased from, the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale, has developed a strong reputation of producing quality horses at bargain prices, with Whobegotyou, Sincero, Ilovethiscity, Secret Admirer, Manwanui, The Verminator and Pressday all recent Group 1 winners who could have been purchased at Classic for less than $50,000.

The 2012 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale will be held at Newmarket from January 22 to 24 next year.

Today's Sale Cup meeting also saw Inglis auction an unbroken two-year-old colt by Swettenham Stud stallion Host, who sold to a local syndicate for $22,000.

From Danehill Dancer mare Loving Me, the colt had plenty of admirers when offered in the Sale Turf Club parade ring prior to the Inglis Trophy including the connections of Upstacker.

Inglis have provided free entry to the Inglis Race Series for the Host colt, whose first chance at Inglis Race Series glory is the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday December 17.

Connections next chance in the Inglis Race Series for three-year-olds is at Warwick Farm on November 19, where a $100,000 Inglis Bonus will be on offer to the winner of the three-year-old Benchmark 75 Hcp over 1600m should they be nominated to the Inglis Race Series.
