Triple Honour Strikes

Breednet - Tara Madgwick - Saturday, 5 June 2010

Winner of the Group One AJC Doncaster Handicap in 2008, Triple Honour bounced back to top form to capture the Group Two QTC Eagle Farm Cup in Brisbane on Saturday continuing an outstanding recent run of success for horses sold by Widden Stud.

Placed in the Group One AJC Queen Elizabeth Stakes and BTC Doomben Cup at his last two starts, Triple Honour showed his class in powering away to win the 2200 metre staying test by almost two lengths from the Encosta de Lago duo of Raffaelo and Newport.

Despite the ease of his win, trainer Chris Waller remained uncommitted to starting his charge in the Brisbane Cup fearing the handicapper may set too harsh a task for the five year-old gelding.

Triple Honour (pictured) has become a stalwart for the Chris Waller stable winning seven races and placing seven times from 32 starts, his earnings soaring to $1.9 million - not bad for a horse purchased by his trainer for a modest $50,000 from the Widden draft at the 2006 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Triple Honour is the only Group One winner for the imported Danehill stallion Honours List (IRE), who shuttled to Widden earlier in his career before finding a permanent home in Spain.

Triple Honour was bred by Iskander Bloodstock Manager Suman Hedge and is from Myrrh (NZ), a Nassipour (USA) mare from Group Two winner San Pauli Girl.

Myrrh has changed hands since then and had a filly by Encosta de Lago last spring before going back to the champion sire again.
