Inglis graduates Nostradamus, Sabatini and Get The Nod claimed the three Group 3 races of three-year-olds in Australia on Saturday; the ATC San Domenico Stakes, MRC Quezette Stakes and MRC Vain Stakes respectively.
Exciting colt Nostradamus (pictured) became the fourth straight Inglis graduate to claim the Group 3 ATC San Domenico Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill.
Nostradamus (Medaglia D'Oro x Leone Chiara) was first up since a luckless run in the Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and although on the fresh side he was able to hold off the late charge of Washington Heights in the Sydney three-year-old feature.
“He probably began too good. The idea was to jump and have him behind the speed, but he was a bit fresh today. Once James had him nice and balanced he hit the line well,” said co-trainer Michael Hawkes.
“He will improve of that. He’s a lovely colt and his value will only go up. He wasn’t screwed down today with a bit left in the tank. As he gets on I think he’ll get further, but it’s only his fourth start in a race. He’s on the right path,” Michael added.
Bred by Almavale Bloodstock, Nostradamus is from the first Australian conceived crop of Darley stallion Medaglia D’Oro and is a half-brother to Widden Stud’s exciting young Group 1 winning stallion Star Witness.
Nostradamus was offered by Almavale Bloodstock at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Eric Koundouris for $500,000.
“He’s a beautiful colt that moves well and has a bright future,” said jockey James McDonald of the Group 3 winning colt that is raced by Koundouris Bloodstock Syn (Mgr: A E Koundouris), Jacob Park Thoroughbred Syn (Mgr: D W McMillan), M S Fennessy, Dascarolis Racing Syn (Mgr: M P Dascarolis) & A Maglasis.
Nostradamus joins Va Pensiero, Snitzerland and Foxwedge as the fourth Inglis graduate to win the Group 3 ATC San Domenico Stakes in the last four years.
Sabatini upset yearling sale buyers and punters at Caulfield when scoring in the Group 3 MRC Quezette Stakes over 1100m for fillies.
Bred by Alpara Lodge, Sabatini (Street Cry x Royal Sash) was unable to reach her $150,000 reserve when offered through the draft of Coolmore Stud at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The daughter of Street Cry was also unwanted by punters today, but defied her doubters to score a valuable Group 3 victory for owners Alpara Lodge and trainers Lee and Shannon Hope.
“She’s probably flying under the radar a little bit. She’s bred to get a mile. It was a stepping stone today, we threw her in the deep end, but she’s come up trumps,” said Shannon Hope.
Sabatini has had only three starts for two wins and a second placing for over $100,000 in prize money. From Group 3 winning mare Royal Sash and the family of Group 1 winner Happy Trails, Sabatini is now a very valuable stakes winning filly.
Get The Nod (US Ranger x Silent Cash) then made the step up to stakes level with ease winning the Group 3 MRC Vain Stakes for colts and geldings over 1100m at Caulfield.
Bred by Independent Stallions Victoria, Get The Nod was plucked out the 2013 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book by trainer Lloyd Kennewell for $18,000.
Get The Nod is unbeaten from two starts and the sky is the limit according to Kennewell.
“This is the best horse I’ve had. He’s an absolute star and I don’t say that lightly, but he’s as good as we’ve got and as good as we’ve had and we’ve know that for a long long time. That’s why we put him straight out after his first win when he went shin sore,” said Kennewell.
Get The Nod is one of only 34 foals from the first and only Australian crop of US Ranger, a USA bred son of Danzig.
“He’s a serious horse. I’m very happy and really looking forward to where he’ll head to next,” added Lloyd Kennewell.
