Unique movie memorabilia to go under the hammer

Your chance to secure movie history from Director Simon Wincer’s film THE CUP

Major feature film The Cup wraps this week and producers are offering the props for auction on Sunday November 21 at Oaklands Complex beginning at 11.00 am. Items include jockeys silks, horse rugs, saddles, bridles and the horses themselves.

Starring Stephen Curry as Damien Oliver, The Cup tells the story of his emotional 2002 Melbourne Cup win on Media Puzzle, just days after his brother Jason was killed in a race fall.

For collectors of racing and movie memorabilia this auction is not to be missed.

There will be a full set of 2002 Melbourne Cup race silks, 24 miniature Melbourne Cups, race saddles, headstalls and race day leads, and bridles and bits. The winning silks worn and signed by Stephen Curry will be up for grabs, as will racing items signed by other stars of The Cup Daniel MacPherson and Tom Burlinson.

Horse rugs worn by the equine stars of the film will go under the auctioneers hammer. These would made unique picnic rugs – a real talking point at next year’s Spring Carnival!

Or for the real horse buffs, the equine stars that played the roles of Media Puzzle, Pugin and Vinnie Roe – will all be looking for new stables.

Among the horses up for auction will be the placid look-a-likes ridden by the actors during filming, thoroughbreds ready for an after-racing career that will suit devotees of polo, showjumping, dressage and show horses. There are 25 racehorses with papers – there could be a real winner amongst them.

Quirky clothing worn by the extras on race days are part of The Cup catalogue. Footy fans aren’t forgotten either with North Melbourne and West Coast Football Club hats and scarves.

The Inglis auction is being held on Sunday, November 21 at the Inglis Oaklands complex beginning at 11.00 am. The horses will be available for viewing on the Sunday morning, before the auction.

Representatives of Inglis and members of The Cup production crew including director Simon Wincer are available for interviews.
