The progeny of proven and young sires were highly sought after at a lively Inglis Australian Weanling Sale in Sydney on Monday 24 June 2013.
A colt by supersire Fastnet Rock topped the day, while weanlings by Wanted, Exceed And Excel, Snitzel, High Chaparral, Star Witness and Sebring also sold for $80,000 or more.
“Very pleasing to record a 88% clearance rate for the select session and even more so is the feedback from many vendors that not only did the market meet their reserves but often exceeded them, which is a good sign,” said Jonathan D’Arcy.
“Last year’s Weanling Sale topper went on to top our Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and we certainly look forward to re-offering plenty of the pinhooks from today’s strong offerings at our Select Yearling Sale Series next year,” added D’Arcy
Entry forms for the 2014 Inglis Select Yearling Sales Series will be available later this week.
Spirited bidding in Sydney on Monday saw 88% of Select Session offerings sold at an average of $23,380.
Erinvale Thoroughbreds’ colt by Fastnet Rock from Promptness was very popular during inspections despite the wet weather. When offered as Lot 71 an opening bid of $200,000 was thrown out to scare the opposition off. It was quickly followed up with a raise of $10,000 before Edinburgh Park’s Ian Smith struck the winning blow at $240,000 for the colt (pictured).
Just as they were twelve months ago weanlings by Fastnet Rock’s Group 1 winning son Wanted were hot property in the Newmarket sale ring today. Seven lots by the Eliza Park resident stallion were sold at an average of $82,000.
The top priced Wanted was offered in the Lee Fleming Thoroughbreds Unreserved Dispersal as Lot 404. The colt from Aquatint sold to Eliza Park International for $150,000.
Leading New Zealand pinhookers Ascot Farm secured the top priced filly on the day amongst their purchases. They went to $120,000 to buy the first foal of juvenile stakes winner She’s Got Gears for $120,000. The Exceed And Excel filly was offered by Coolmore Stud as Lot 92.
Other lots to top six figures included Lustre Lodge’s filly by Snitzel from Love’s Here (Lot 35) that sold for $115,000 and Coolmore Stud’s colt by High Chaparral from Rodelinda (Lot 83) that was bought for $100,000.
A number of first crop sires recorded very pleasing results for studmasters. The progeny of Widden Stud resident Star Witness sold up to $85,000, Coolmore’s Lookin At Lucky up to $47,500 and Starspangledbanner up to $39,000.
Fastnet Rock’s Group 3 winning first season sons Stryker and Hinchinbrook had progeny sell for up to $42,000 and $30,000 respectively.
