Australian Racing Board - Press release - Wednesday, 3 June 2009

Australian Racing Board Chairman Bob Bentley has paid tribute to Bruce McLachlan who died in his sleep last night.

“Bruce McLachlan’s record speaks for itself, and what a record it is. During a 40 year career he trained over 3000 winners, formed memorable partnerships with some of Australia’s leading riders, Gavan Duffy and Brian York, and nurtured an incredible list of good horses including horses such as Al Mansour, St Jude, Planet Ruler, Virage De Fortune and Phelan Ready.” – Bob Bentley, Chairman Australian Racing Board

“This year’s 2yo Magic Millions and Golden Slipper were undoubtedly highlights but his best achievement was his reputation built over 40 years. To be at the top of your game for such an extensive period takes the full package: skill, hard work, vision, loyalty and determination. Bruce McLachlan had all of these in spades. He will be sorely missed.” – Bob Bentley
