Victorians Rush To VOBIS Gold Sale

The 2015 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale got off to a solid start today in Melbourne with 120 Super VOBIS nominated yearlings selling to a vast group of buyers.

“The Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold incentive schemes are well renowned among Victoria’s racing participants and it was great to see many new faces as well as our regular buyers bidding on young horses to run for the great prize money and bonuses in the schemes,” said Inglis Melbourne Director Peter Heagney.

Today’s average price of $13,646 is up 9% on last year’s Day One figure, while the median is up 47% to $11,000. The clearance rate today was 85% on a smaller offering than 12 months ago.

“There hasn’t been a dominant buyer or sire represented in today’s sales results, yet to achieve a 47% increase in median from last year is a good improvement for our vendors,” added Heagney.

A colt by Rothesay from Madam Bubbles topped Sunday’s session when sold to Laming Racing for $62,000. The colt was offered as Lot 128 by Silver Ferns Farms of Lang Lang.

Three Bridges Thoroughbreds’ resident stallion Stryker (by Fastnet Rock) has started his career with four two-year-old winners already and Victorian trainers were out to snap up more of his progeny today.

Wendy Kelly went to $47,000 to secure a grey filly by Stryker from Miss Cleopatra (Lot 138), while Darren Weir, Terry O’Sullivan, B Pendlebury, D Elliss, R Vangoni and Clanbrooke Racing also purchased yearlings by Stryker.

Local trainers, owners and syndicators did have competition from overseas and interstate as Canberra trainer Matthew Dale finished Day One as the leading individual buyer of three yearlings for $79,000.

In fact the 120 yearlings sold on Sunday were purchased by 88 individual buyers, underlining the vast array of buyers present at Oaklands.

Horses passed in on the opening day of the 2015 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale are available for sale via the Inglis Make-An-Offer Service.

The second and final day of the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale starts at 11:00am tomorrow, Monday 20 April 2015.

Day Two starts with the remaining Select Session offerings (Lot 161 to 260), followed by the General Session (Lots 261 to 325) then concluding with the Supplementary Session (Lots 326 to 362).

Victorian trainer Danny Curran struck early on Day Two of the 2014 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale snapping up The Big Dance for $750. The filly earned her connections $172,000 when winner of the VOBIS Gold Rush at Bendigo last month.

Inglis Sale Day Live, Online Bidding and Make-An-Offer services will again be available tomorrow for buyers unable to make it to Inglis’ Oaklands sale complex for the auction.
