Villiers win for racing's new Glamour girl

Gorgeous mare Greysful Glamour is fast becoming a fan favourite of Australian racing and added to her glowing reputation with an all-the-way win in today’s G2 Villiers Stakes at Randwick.

Whether it’s her front-running style, her striking silver coat or her winning relationship with her in-form jockey Rachel King – or a combination of all three – Greysful Glamour is undoubtedly a new darling of the turf.

Purchased for just $90,000 by Darby Racing and De Burgh Equine at the 2017 Easter Yearling Sale when offered by Edinglassie Stud on behalf of breeders Stuart and Katie Hume, Greysful Glamour has now won six races and more than $800,000 in earnings.

Today’s Villiers win booked Greysful Glamour (pictured) a start in next year’s $3m Doncaster Mile on Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick should connections want to head there.

Winning trainer Mark Newnham described today’s win as “pretty to watch’’.

“She got control of the race which she loves to do…and showed her trademark kick,’’ Newnham said.

“She’s an all-time favourite. She raced as an early 2YO, she placed in the Oaks and was our first Melbourne carnival runner, it’s just a good win all round.

“She’s a really exciting mare to watch and she’s just the sweetest and loveliest filly you’d ever see in the stable, everyone loves her, she’s got a great following.’’

Edinglassie’s Mick Talty added: “She’s the first foal of Rippled and was a lovely foal.

“Mark Newnham has done a great job with her. She was always lovely and correct as a young horse with a great temperament and was a nice mover and I guess she is proving that on the racetrack now.’’

Edinglassie will offer Greysful Glamour’s Pierro half sister at next year’s Easter Yearling Sale on behalf of the Humes.

“She’s a big strong filly, scopey, correct and should go really well,’’ Talty said.

“She might be the sister of a Doncaster winner a few days earlier with a bit of luck.’’

Earlier in the program Frankel entire Significance made it back-to-back wins and secured an important first Stakes success with victory in the Listed Christmas Cup at Randwick.

It was a second win in seven days for the Clare Cunningham-trained 4YO, who scored a similarly strong victory at Rosehill last Saturday.

Bred by Glentree Pastoral, Significance is a $1.1m Easter Yearling Sale purchase for Domeland from Arrowfield Stud.

It continues a fantastic run of Inglis-sold graduates bred by Glentree, including Ain’tnodeeldun who was a star of the spring with consecutive Stakes victories in Adelaide and Melbourne.

In Adelaide Savatoxl (Kuroshio) led in an Inglis graduates Stakes trifecta when winning the Listed Christmas Handicap at Morphettville.

The Carrington Park-bred Savatoxl is an $8000 bargain buy for the Alice Spring Turf Club at the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Stonehouse.

Savatoxl defeated Easter graduate Music Addition, with Too Good Too Hard (Premier Yearling Sale) in third.
