Vinery Dispersal - Weekend Highlights

17th Mar 2005

An action packed weekend of racing in both Sydney and Melbourne will see a number of horses competing whose achievements will have significance for the upcoming Vinery Dispersal (Newmarket, Sunday April 3 rd).

“Domesday and Blizzardly will line up in the Golden Slipper, while in Melbourne Benicio will tackle the Sires Produce and his work leading into it has been first class,” said Adam White of Vinery Stud.

The Vinery Dispersal includes superbly bred mare In the Past (GB) (dam of Domesday), Group Three winning Danehill (USA) mare Mannington (dam of Benicio) and Short ‘n’ Sweep, a winning half-sister to Blizzardly, who has not yet been to stud.

“Also in Melbourne we have Group Three winning mare Demerger resuming from a let-up in the Listed Matron Stakes and stakes-winning three year old How Good is He, first up from a spell in the Listed Jayco Sprint,” added White.

Bred by Vinery Stud, Demerger has been a tough and consistent performer winning close to $400,000 in prizemoney, highlighted by her win in the VRC Matriarch Stakes Gr 3 at Flemington last spring.

“Her mother Triattica and full sister Triangular will both be offered in the Dispersal,” said White.

“Triangular had some ability and won a race at Moonee Valley, she is in foal to More Than Ready (USA) in her first season at stud, while Triattica is in foal to Dehere. Being from the same family as multiple Group One winner Defier, we thought it was a good mating for her.”

How Good is He scored a terrific win in the MVRC Mitchell McKenzie Stakes L last spring and his dam Something Special, a daughter of Bletchingly, will be offered in foal to More Than Ready (USA).

At Warwick Farm last Sunday, exciting sprint prospect Snippetson ran a bold race for second in the weight-for-age AJC Challenge Stakes Gr 2.

His dam Snowdrift (Fr) was purchased by Vinery from Stratheden Stud and has done a remarkable job, producing four stakes performers from her first four foals to race. Her current yearling, a filly by More Than Ready (USA) is guaranteed to attract serious attention at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Flurry (Fr), a stakes-placed half-sister to Snowdrift (Fr), is another hugely appealing prospect and she is already the dam of a stakes-winner in France.

“We bought Flurry at the Tattersalls sale when we saw what a good job Snowdrift was doing, it just made sense to bring more of the same family out to Australia,” said White, who pointed out that both Flurry (Fr) and Snowdrift (Fr) are in foal to Red Ransom (USA).
