VIRAGE DE BROODMARE

10th Apr 2007

Set to be among the sale toppers at next week’s 2007 William Inglis & Son Select Weanling & Broodmare Sale, Anabaa (USA) mare Virage de Fortune will have her last start this coming Saturday in the time honoured Group One All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Having run a courageous third placing on Saturday in the heavy conditions of the Group One AJC T.J. Smith Stakes, the magnificent looking grey filly took her career earnings just shy of the $1million mark. Recording eight career wins from 20 starts highlighted by a swathe of group wins including victories in the MVRC Australia Stakes and the QTC Sires’ Produce Stake, both at Group One level.

“One of the best race fillies to go to public auction in recent years, Virage de Fortune has everything stud masters are looking for in a potential broodmare; pedigree, confirmation and race performance,” stated William Inglis & Son Director Jonathan D’Arcy. “Virage de Fortune has all the makings to set an Australasian record at a broodmare sale.”

Known for her sustained speed and tenacious attitude, the filly’s pedigree is heavily laden with black-type performers, receiving a further recent update through the deeds of Zabeel gelding Railings (NZ) who took his career earnings past the $3 million mark with recent Group One placing’s in both the STC Ranvet Stakes and STC The BMW.

Yarraman Park as agent will offer the filly for her connections which include astute bloodstock agent James Bester and leading owners Tim Hughes and Michael Sullivan as Lot 366. Best wishes also go to the same connections, which also have ownership in today’s leading contender for the Group One AJC Oaks (2400m) in the shape of Galileo (IRE) filly Banc de Fortune.

Commencing on Sunday April 15 at 12 noon with the first of 287 weanlings, the remaining consecutive five days of the sale will start at 10:30am. Once the weanlings are sold, the broodmares section of the catalogue will commence in an unorthodox fashion with Lot 288, the Group One performed Storm Cat (USA) stallion Old Deuteronomy (USA). Over 900 mares will follow, with star highlights being offered on each and every day of the sale.
