Voyage Bubble retains his G1 Stewards’ Cup crown

Inglis Classic graduate Voyage Bubble (Deep Field) today claimed a second G1 Stewards’ Cup with a dominant performance in the prestigious mile contest at Sha Tin.

Sent off odds-on to defeat his seven rivals, victory never looked in doubt, with the big bay powering clear down the straight to win by a decisive two length margin.

The win, his third a G1 level, solidified his reputation as Hong Kong’s premier miler on a night when Inglis graduates excelled on the Sha Tin card, winning 6 races.

The 6YO Voyage Bubble now boasts nine career wins, with his earnings climbing to HK$77.8m (AUD$16m).

“He’s superb isn’t he? He’s bombproof. He jumped fast, put himself in a good position and quickened on,” said winning jockey James McDonald post-race.

“I reckon that’s the best he’s felt since I’ve ridden him.

“He strode around at the start with a real purpose and he’s such an easy horse to read.

“He’s a privilege to ride,” McDonald said.

“It seems every time he comes out, he does it a little bit easier, you can see improvement in him each time,” trainer Ricky Yiu said of his charge.

Yiu is setting his sights on the prestigious Triple Crown Series for Voyage Bubble, in which victory in The Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m) on February 23 and The Hong Kong Champions and Chater Cup (2400m) in May, would see him claim a lucrative HK$10 million bonus.

“We’re going to give it a crack, the Triple Crown,” Yiu said after Voyage Bubble’s victory in the first leg of the series.

Voyage Bubble’s other career wins include the Hong Kong Derby, Hong Kong Classic Mile and his victory in the G1 Hong Kong Mile in December.

He is one of 102 individual G1-winning Inglis graduates since 2018 and is amongst a host of Inglis graduates to perform with distinction in Hong Kong over the last 12 months, including the likes of Helios Express, Beauty Eternal, Victor The Winner, Invincible Sage, Howdeepisyourlove and many others.

Voyage Bubble was sold by Torryburn Stud at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where he was purchased by Yiu for $380,000.

The 2025 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale is on February 9 – 11 at Riverside Stables.

Torryburn Stud will offer 11 yearlings at the sale.
