Mudgee trainer Brett Thompson will take Hewentwhoosh back to Sydney in search of a healthy pay day after winning at Towac Park yesterday.

Hewentwhoosh lived up to his name yesterday as the $2.90 favourite finished strongly to take out the $15,000 Pink Batts - Fletcher Insulation Benchmark 70 Handicap (1400m).

The three-year-old beat Voltabolta ($3.90) by 1 1/2 lengths, with Mosseltov ($6.20) third by a nose.

Thompson is now keen to take Hewentwhoosh to Randwick on December 19 after recording back-to-back country wins at Orange and Muswellbrook.

“He’ll go back (to Sydney). He was nearly going to go (today) at Randwick, but I decided to come here,” Thompson said.

“He won the Inglis Challenge last year at Scone (pictured), the two-year-old $80,000 race at Scone last year. There is a $100,000 bonus at Randwick, I think it’s the 19th, that’s what I’m leading him towards.”

Maktuub got out of the gates well to lead before Pass The Bubbly assumed front position at the 1200m mark.

Ken Parsons-trained Maktuub then reclaimed the lead at the 500m mark before Hewentwhoosh motored home to live up to his name, which was given to him by Thompson’s son, Jay.

Thompson picked the gelding up at the Scone Yearling Sales along with another horse and this was the start of his fledgling training career, which is just over a year old.

Trangie trainer Paul Mitchell recorded two winners at Towac Park yesterday, with Flogsdream getting up in the Benchmark 65 Handicap (2100m) while Sapphire Gaze took out the Maiden Handicap (1000m).
