Well Written continues to write her own remarkable story

Unbeaten wonder Well Written (Written Tycoon) made a spectacular return to her 4YO campaign today, winning the G1 Proisir Plate in emphatic fashion at Ellerslie.

With huge spring carnival aspirations including the G1 Epsom Hcp and G1 $10m Golden Eagle on the agenda for her spring preparation, connections needed to see Well Written resume in a manner that convinced them she was deserving of a Sydney Spring Carnival assault.

And they now know they have one of the best mares in the Southern Hemisphere after she officially graduated to Open Weight For Age company in the strongest way possible, taking the unbeaten start to her career to seven consecutive victories.

In winning today, Well Written (pictured) led in a trifecta of Inglis graduates, defeating Alabama Lass and Media World.

Benji King’s Foxhill Thoroughbreds purchased the Dave Digney-bred Well Written for $32,500 at the Great Southern Sale, where she was offered as a weanling by Lemrac Lodge.

Trained by Stephen Marsh and racing in the famed Yulong silks, Well Written is now a winner of $2,231,000.

Digney described the Well Written journey as “unbelievable’’.

“I’ve been in the game for more than 20 years but only ever with one or two mares at a time here and there and she’s one out of the box obviously, she’s pretty amazing really,’’ Digney said.

“I’m very excited for all the owners because that’s what the game is all about.

“She’s a very special horse and we get very excited by her every time she runs.

“Her dam Mozzie Monster was actually served by Extreme Choice yesterday so the future is just as exciting.’’

Winning trainer Marsh added: "Alabama Lass kicked and I thought I was going to be (finishing) 2^nd but she was amazing, she's ended up winning well.

"She looks very special, doesn't she? Seven from seven, she's now come up against the best Weight For Age horses we've got and she's won well.

"Every year, it’s never easy for 4YO mares to take on these horses and she's done it.

"So she's special, she's first-up, and she's got a couple of big assignments ahead of her and I hope we're right on track."

Well Written is one of 125 individual Inglis graduates to have won a G1 since 2018 following the win of My Gladiola in today’s G1 Moir Stakes at Sandown.

Meanwhile at Randwick today tough sprinter Headley Grange (Exosphere) announced he was in for a big spring carnival when scoring a strong first-up victory in the G2 Tramway Stakes.

The Joe Pride-trained Headley Grange is already a G1 winner, victorious in the Kingsford Smith Cup during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and following today’s performance, he firmed into an $11 prospect in next month’s G1 Epsom Hcp.

Headley Grange was purchased by HDB Bloodstock – on behalf of Bob Manwaring - through the 2023 Inglis Digital November (Late) Online Sale for $120,000 after just three career starts.

He has since won 12 races for almost $2.7m in prizemoney.

“This horse is a winner, he just finds a way to get it done,’’ Pride said.

“About 100m out I had a bit of faith he was going to find a way to get there because he doesn’t really run 2^nd - if he gets close enough, he finds a way to win.

“I am extremely happy with him, he has returned in great shape.’’

Pride will decide in the coming week if Headley Grange targets the Epsom on October 3 at Randwick or the $1.5m G3 Alan Brown Stakes – a race he won 12 months ago - a week later at Rosehill.
