Trial watchers at Rosehill on Tuesday morning will be able to tell you all about Foxwedge.
Purchased for $925,000 by De Burgh Equine at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Foxwedge was the dearest yearling by Fastnet Rock sold in Australia this year and in his first public barrier trial, the John O’Shea trained colt showed he had ability as well as good looks.
Carrying the colours of Dr and Mrs Edmund Bateman, Foxwedge jumped well and sat outside the leader before showing a sizzling turn of foot to skip away and win the 900 metre trial by eight lengths in 55.32 seconds.
Consigned for sale by Luskin Park Stud, Foxwedge is from the stakes-placed US import Forest Native (USA), who scored two of her three wins as a juvenile.
All going well, Foxwedge is expected to make his debut at Rosehill on Saturday week.
Dr and Mrs Edmund Bateman have already tasted success this season with another of their Inglis Easter purchases in two year-old filly Satin Shoes, who won on debut at Randwick on October 16.
A $700,000 purchase on the advice of De Burgh Equine, Satin Shoes is by Flying Spur from Group I winner Star Satire and like Foxwedge, she was the dearest yearling by her sire at that sale.
Note: A sister to Foxwedge by Fastnet Rock will be offered by Luskin Park Stud at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale
