Written By firms for Slipper following strong Pago Pago win

Written By kept his unbeaten record in tact and firmed to outright second-favourite for next weekend’s Golden Slipper with a tough win in today’s Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill.

Written By (Written Tycoon x Yau Chin) was a well-supported odds-on favourite and didn’t let punters or his connections down, holding off a challenge from Snitzel colt Sandbar to make it four consecutive career wins.

The TAB reacted strongly to the victory, trimming the Blue Diamond winner’s odds into $5 for the $3.5m Golden Slipper in seven days’ time.

Written By is looking to become the first horse since Sepoy in 2011 to win the Blue Diamond/Golden Slipper double.

He is set to be one of six Inglis graduates to contest next week’s Slipper joining Estijaab, Santos, Seabrook, Fiesta and Prairie Fire.

Written By will be given a quiet week leading up to the big race, according to his breeder and owner Neville Begg.

“He’ll probably just walk for the rest of the week,’’ Begg said.

“He’s done very well since he’s been here, he never takes his head out of the feed bin. He’s such a great doer.

“This is not an easy track, Rosehill, so to win at his first go here was impressive. Now it’s onto the Slipper.’’

Written By is a graduate of last year’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Basinghall Farm.

As he was last year, Written By’s sire Written Tycoon was again one of the leading stallions at this month’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

There are eight of his progeny at next month’s Australian Easter Yearling Sale, at Riverside Stables from April 9-11.
