Yearlings In High Demand at Winter Sale

12th Jul 2007

Spirited bidding duels were the order of the day at the William Inglis & Son Winter Weanling, Yearling & Thoroughbred Sale as buyers were given the final opportunity to purchase yearlings eligible for next year’s lucrative $100,000 2008 Scone Inglis Challenge. With the market once again proving extremely competitive, an overall clearance rate of 91% was achieved.

Topping the sale was Lot 108, a strapping chestnut Exceed And Excel filly, selling to Inglis as agent for $145,000. Offered by Segenhoe Stud as agent, the filly is a half-sister to dual Listed winner Russian Caravan and is also related to Group One winner Snowland. Lot 107, a colt by the same sire as the top priced lot, which was also offered by Segenhoe Stud as agent was knocked down to Serene Lodge for $90,000.

Breeders looking for the opportunity to pinhook weanlings and purchase mares prior to the breeding season were also well in attendance, aiding in producing the buoyant results achieved.

William Inglis & Son Acting Managing Director Jamie Inglis was extremely pleased with the results, stating that, “Every category of bloodstock offered was highly sought after, with most states in Australia as well as the Philippines and the United Kingdom represented on the results list today, indicative of the strength of the sale.”

The next sale on the calendar, the first sale for the new racing season, will be the 2007 William Inglis & Son August Thoroughbred Sale to be held at Oaklands, Melbourne. A supplementary catalogue will be available and will close on August 10. Entry forms can be downloaded here or contact the Melbourne office on 03 9333 1422.
