The 2012 Inglis Scone Broodmare Sale was conducted at White Park on Friday, with young commercial mares demanding the day’s highest prices.
The one-day sale recorded a clearance rate of 84%, as the highest price of $36,000 was recorded for five-year-old mare North Pole Dancer.
By proven broodmare sire Anabaa from a sister to the dam of Samantha Miss, North Pole Dancer (Lot 65) exceeded the expectations of her vendor Champion Thoroughbreds when selling to Dartbrook Downs Thoroughbreds for the top price.
“Many commercial young mares made more than their vendors expected, but the lower end of the market is going through a tough period,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.
“Buyers have become very selective, but I have no doubt that when we look back on today’s market we will recognise that there was some great opportunistic buying,” D’Arcy said.
Stallion parades in the Hunter Valley are underway ahead of the start of the upcoming breeding season, with plenty of chatter around Scone about the First Season Sires such as So You Think, Uncle Mo, Musir, Dream Ahead, Sepoy, Pluck, Gio Ponti, Smart Missile and Foxwedge.
Sales attention now turns to the Inglis Sydney Spring Thoroughbred Sale, which will be conducted on Friday 28 September.
Last year’s Spring Sale recorded a clearance rate of 92%, with dual Group 1 winner Black Piranha the star when selling for $245,000.
Well performed and related fillies and mares are always popular at the Sydney sale, exampled by stakes placed Anabaa mare Turnstiles selling for $120,000 in 2011.
