Zipping Rounds Out Memorable Carnival

With La Rocket bringing up the half century during the week, grand campaigner Zipping added to the Inglis Spring Carnival stakes blitz today when scoring an unprecedented third straight win in the G2 Sandown Classic.

The eight-year-old ZIPPING ($190,000 2003 Easter, 8g Danehill-Social Scene) took his career tally to 13 wins and $2.7million in prizemoney after gunning down dual Group 1 winner Purple in the final stages of today's 2400m contest.

The son of Danehill could arguably be described as the best horse to have raced in Australia in recent seasons not to have won at Group 1 level.

This was his sixth black type win – fourth at Group 2 level – but he has placed four times at Group 1 level, including second and third finishes in the past two Cox Plates.

Zipping was sold to Graeme Rogerson on behalf of owner Lloyd Williams from the draft of Collingrove Stud at Easter in 2003.

His dam Social Scene (Grand Lodge) was later sold by Swettenham Stud for $35,000 at the 2004 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

In recent times, Social Scene's yearlings include a $625,000 Redoute's Choice filly at last year's Easter sale.

Capping a wonderful spring carnival, Zipping is the 51st stakes winning Inglis graduate in Australia for season 2009-10.

The honour of being the 50th winner went to LA ROCKET ($300,000 2006 Easter, 5g Rock Of Gibraltar-La Bella Dama) who took out the Listed Chatswood Stud Spring Classic at Seymour on Wednesday.

The Inglis stakes winning haul includes the Group 1 winners Whobegotyou, Road To Rock, Irish Lights, Headway, All Silent, Faint Perfume, Turffontein and Starspangledbanner.
