An excellent clearance rate and a record top price were all positive signs for the VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale after the 2014 auction.
“It was pleasing to record an increase in average on last year’s sale and also to see the strength of the sale remain through to the end,” commented Victorian Manager Peter Heagney."
Rosemont Stud sold Lot 14, a colt by Snitzel from the Group 2 winning mare Yakama to Lindsay Park Bloodstock to top the sale at $80,000.
This was closely followed by Swettenham Stud’s Host filly from Sparkling Symphony which sold as Lot 232 to successful Victorian owners Barrie and Midge Griffiths for $75,000.
Consistent Victorian sire Written Tycoon achieved the third top price lot with the colt from Danari, offered by Eliza Park as agent for Dorrington Farm, selling to Anthony Cavanagh for $70,000.
Robert Smerdon bidding for Aquanita Racing had to stave off spirited competition to secure Hillside Thoroughbreds’ Starcraft – Freestyle (Lot 403) colt for $68,000.
A few lots before, Sheamus Mills Racing/Princess Park Racing went to $56,000 to claim the Artie Schiller – Chitraka (Lot 399) colt offered by Emirates Park
"Vendors who were realistic with their expectations were well rewarded. The market is quite selective as it has been at all sales this year but quality yearlings will always be in demand," added Peter Heagney.
