For the sixth consecutive year the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale has risen to new heights with 584 yearlings sold for a record $48,651,000 in Melbourne from Sunday 1 March to Wednesday 4 March 2015.
The Session I average increased by 15% from last year to a record $95,886 while the median was up 23% to a record $80,000 and gross up 20% to a record $44,970,500. 469 yearlings were sold at a very healthy clearance rate of 84% in Session I.
115 lots sold during Session II grossing a record $3,680,500. The $32,004 record average demonstrated a 4% increase and the median also rose 4% to $26,000 from the 2014 sale. The Session II clearance rate was a record 80%.
“It is great to be a part of the sale that is at the forefront of the Thoroughbred industry in Victoria,“ said Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney.
“We couldn’t be more pleased about the records set by Premier, and the rewards it has given to those vendors who have supported the sale,” Heagney said.
Topping the sale early in the opening day was Lot 44, a Snitzel filly which sold for $560,000 to multiple Group 1-winning South African trainer Brett Crawford. The Yallambee Stud offering was sold for only $10,000 less than the record price for a filly set at the 2006 edition of Inglis Premier.
The top priced colt set a new Australian sales record price for the progeny of first season sire Foxwedge when Lot 185, a colt from Group 1 performer Glowlamp (by Encosta de Lago), was purchased by for $420,000. Offered from the draft of Newgate Farm the colt was bought by New South Wales trainer Paul Perry.
45 Lots sold for $200,000 or more at the 2015 Ingils Premier Sale which was a significant jump from 24 sold in 2014.
Lindsay Park were the leading Session I buyer for the third consecutive year having outlaid $1,350,000 on 11 Lots including one in partnership with Darby Racing.
Victorians spent over $23,500,000 making up 48% of the sale’s gross. International support was also strong with overseas buyers spending $11,000,000 on 100 Lots.
Eliza Park International were the leading vendors by aggregate selling 24 of 27 Lots for $2,955,000, followed closely by fellow Victorians Blue Gum Farm who recorded an average price of $128,043 on 23 Lots during Session I.
Edinburgh Park were the leading vendors by average ($172,500), followed by Newgate Farm, Henley Park and Yallambee Stud.
Winners of the Best Presented Draft was Henley Park, New Zealand which cleared six from seven Lots offered across both Sessions averaging $154,166. Marc and Sarah Devcich won $1000 from Inglis' major sponsor TAB. Judging was assessed on yearling preparation, presentation of staff, general stable presentation, management and professionalism.
Fastnet Rock leads the sires by average (3 or more sold) with $187,083 across 12 yearlings, followed by Street Cry, Redoute’s Choice and Northern Meteor.
First season sires were particularly popular in Melbourne, with Smart Missile making $2,722,500 on 23 of his progeny, followed closely by Helmet selling the same number for $2,287,500. Foxwedge continues to dominate the first season average with $161,364 for 11 Lots.
