$50,000 Inglis Bonus Goes Off In Canberra

Inglis Classic graduate Super Too proved she is in fact deserving of the same adjective as her older brother Super One, when she dominated the field to win the Lightning Ridge Inglis Bonus 2YO Plate over 1000m at Canberra, securing a $50,000 bonus on top of the prizemoney for her large group of owners.

Super Too (Hinchinbrook x Tails Wins) jumped as favourite for the contest after a strong trial win at Warwick Farm earlier this month, and rewarded punters’ confidence early when she took the lead in the first 200m. She continued to lead for the remainder of the race, fending off advances from fellow Classic graduate, the Bede Murray-trained Flash Fibian, and hit the line strongly.

The second foal of an unraced mare and by Yarraman Park’s then first season sire Hinchinbrook, Super Too failed to meet her reserve in the ring at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. Trainer Marc Conners is glad he sought her out for purchase for $25,000, as she is now the half-sister to Champion Two-year-old in Singapore Super One, and herself the winner of a total of $69,300 after today’s victory.

“After she passed in I went and had another two looks, and I just had to have her,” said Conners.

“We initially targeted the Inglis Classic Race but we didn’t get there, and this was the next event on the Inglis Race Series calendar for two-year-olds so it was a no-brainer to debut her here.

She outweighs all the older mares at 520kg, she absolutely laps up her work and I was fairly confident going into today,” Conners said.

Super Too has also secured herself a start in next month’s $280,000 Group 3 CRC Black Opal Stakes at the same track.

“She was syndicated to all existing owners of mine, and our dream is obviously the Golden Slipper, so a start in the Black Opal will give a good indication as to whether we’re on track,” added Conners.

Jockey Winona Costin is also positive about the filly’s future, commenting “She pricked her ears and really enjoyed the race today. She relaxed so well and she indicates she’ll make light work of the 1200m.”

Bred by Reg Kemister, Super Too was consigned through the Broadwater Thoroughbreds (now Bhima Thoroughbreds) draft, and is owned by her trainer, in conjunction with Canary Bros Racing, Mr Paul Reynolds, Mrs J M Harle, Mrs L L Stepetz, Mrs K Russell, Mrs A Solagna, Miss M L Conners, Mr S W Palmer, Mrs M L Palmer, Mr D Gollan, Only Takes One, Mr A J Goonan, Mr L Newton, Mr S C Noble, Mr M J Burling, Mr P B Szalajko, Mr L J Parkes, Mrs T M Parkes and Mr R M Heterick.

The next feature in the lucrative Inglis Race Series is a $50,000 Bonus on the Albury Guineas over 1400m on 18 March, applicable to all graduates nominated to the Inglis Race Series.

All yearlings sold or passed in at an Inglis Yearling Sale are eligible for nomination to the $5 million Inglis Race Series. Nominations for 2016 Inglis yearling graduates to be included in the next Race Series close on July 31. Nominations can be downloaded HERE.
