Able Friend Takes Over From Black Caviar

Turangga Farm bred and sold galloper Able Friend has been rated the equal-top Southern Hemisphere bred racehorse for 2014 by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities overnight, taking over from fellow Inglis graduate Black Caviar who held that title for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Able Friend (Shamardal x Ponte Piccolo) was allocated a peak rating of 127 for his scintillating four length victory in the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile in December, ranking him equal third in the world behind Japanese pair Just A Way and Epiphaneia.

“Australian breeders are well respected throughout the globe for producing world class horses. Congratulations must go to Stuart Ramsey and his Turangga Farm for producing such an outstanding individual and we thank them for entrusting Inglis to sell Able Friend at our Easter Yearling Sale in 2011,” said Mark Webster, Inglis’ Managing Director.

Able Friend was sold from the Turangga Farm draft at the 2011 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale to Hong Kong bloodstock agent George Moore for $550,000.

The strapping chestnut has been prepared at Sha Tin by George’s father John Moore for owners Dr & Mrs Cornel Li Fook Kwan. Able Friend’s rating of 127 is the highest international rating ever allocated to a horse trained in Hong Kong.

“George and John Moore have shown tremendous foresight to purchase some the best yearlings Australia has to offer each year with the aim of turning those horses into Hong Kong’s elite. Team Moore has had tremendous success with Able Friend joining the long list of successful racehorses they’ve sourced from Inglis Easter such as Group 1 winners Inspiration and Happy Zero,” Mark Webster adds.

Thirteen Australian bred Inglis sale graduates were rated 115 or higher by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities in their World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2014; Able Friend, Chautauqua, Fawkner, Sterling City, Amber Sky, Shamus Award, Trust In A Gust, Brazen Beau, Hampton Court, Not Listenin’tome, Sertorious, Speediness and Zac Spirit.

605 yearlings have been lotted for the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. The catalogue will be made available later on this week to complement the catalogues for this year’s Inglis Classic and Inglis Premier Yearling Sales that are already available online at inglis.com.au and on the Inglis Sales iPad App
