Best Ever Inglis Premier Sale

For the sixth consecutive year the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale has risen to new heights continuing the momentum from a record Classic Sale last month.

The Inglis Premier average has increased by 16% from last year to a record $97,003 while the median is up 23% to a record $80,000 and gross up 19% to a record $44,507,500.

The Session I clearance rate currently sits at 82% which is expected to improve as Make-An-Offer sales are processed in the ensuing days, following the path of the Day One clearance which has risen to 87%.

“We are ecstatic that the strength of the sale has continued throughout the entirety of Session I,“ said Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney.

“As Melbourne’s principal yearling sale, these positive results are indicative of the progressive nature of the Victorian industry as a whole,“ Heagney said.

Victorians spent over $20,000,000 making up 45% of the sale’s gross to date. International support was also strong with overseas buyers spending over $10,000,000 on 90 Lots.

45 Lots sold for $200,000 or more since Sunday which is a significant jump from 24 sold in Session I last year.

Today’s top price of $420,000 was realised twice. The first foal from the Storm Cat mare Ryzhkina by Widden Stud’s ill-fated stallion Northern Meteor, Lot 490 from Woodside Park Stud was secured by Mick Malone for Kitchwin Hills. Lot 584, a full sister to Group 1 Hong Kong sprinter Amber Sky from Blue Gum Farm sold to Ciaron Maher.

First season sires have been particularly popular in Melbourne, with Smart Missile making $2,722,500 on 23 of his progeny, followed closely by Helmet selling the same number for $2,287,500. Foxwedge continues to dominate the first season average with $161,364 for 11 Lots.

Fastnet Rock leads the sires by average (3 or more sold) with $187,083 across 12 yearlings, followed by Street Cry, Redoute’s Choice and Northern Meteor.

Lindsay Park are the leading Session I buyer for the third consecutive year having outlaid $1,350,000 on 11 Lots including one in partnership with Darby Racing.

Eliza Park International are the leading vendors by aggregate selling 24 of 27 Lots for $2,955,000, followed closely by fellow Victorians Blue Gum Farm who recorded an average price of $128,043 on 23 Lots during Session I.

Edinburgh Park are the leading vendors by average ($172,500), followed by Newgate Farm, Henley Park and Yallambee Stud.

Bell River Thoroughbreds have sold all seven of their offerings, grossing $860,000. Other vendors that have achieved 100% clearance rate after Day Three include Kia-Ora Stud, Wood Nook Farm, Glentree Thoroughbreds, Gilgai Farm, Basinghall Farm, Millford Thoroughbreds and Cornerstone Stud.

The fourth and final day of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale starts at 11:00am tomorrow. 159 Lots have been catalogued to be offered in Session Two, many of them Super VOBIS nominated as Trust In A Gust was last year.
