Delectable Day For Inglis Graduates

Inglis graduates enjoyed a range of successes on Day Two of The Chamionships, both at Royal Randwick and Flemington, headlined by Delectation which won the Group 2 ATC Arrowfield Sprint.

A $250,000 purchase from the draft of Vinery Stud at the 2013 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Delectation (Shamardal x Grace And Power) has now earned over $750,000 for his owner Mr C C Lai and trainer Chris Waller across four wins.

"Things haven’t really gone his way," said Waller.

“He has been a very frustrating horse to say the least. It was a good win today. We’ve got Mr Lai here from Macau and he is a big supporter of ours. We are very proud to deliver him a winner,’ Waller said.

Promising two-year-old The Barrister took out the Listed ATC Fernhill Handicap at Royal Randwick, adding some valuable black type to the two-year-old’s pedigree.

The Widden Stud graduate is from the first crop of Star Witness, and marks the first stakeswinner for their resident stallion. A $110,000 purchase for his trainer Jason Warren from the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, The Barrister (Star Witness x Strikeline) has now earned over $150,000 for his connections in his first racing season.

Jockey Hugh Bowman was impressed with the horse’s ability to lead all the way to win the 1600m contest.

"He is doing it all on raw ability. I didn't want to lead but I needed to do that to get him into a rhythm,” said Bowman.

"When he matures he will be a serious horse," Bowman said.

The full-sister to The Barrister will be offered from the draft of Golden Grove as Lot 313 at the 2015 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale, 19 and 20 April in Melbourne.

Sure And Fast today took his earnings to over $330,000 with a stellar win in the Provincial Championship Final on Day Two of the Championships at Royal Randwick.

Bred by Mr C Tse, Sure And Fast (Not A Single Doubt x Regal Attraction) was a $60,000 purchase from the draft of Middlebrook Valley Lodge at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. The three-year-old gelding was the first horse to qualify for the Special Condition race winning the qualifier at Wyong last month for his trainer Bede Murray,

“I felt he was the best horse in the race,’’ said Murray.

“He is a pretty good three-year-old, I’ve always thought that, and he has as very good future,’ Murray said.

Sure And Fast will now head to the Restricted Listed Three-year-old Inglis Guineas during the Scone Cup Carnival on 15 and 16 May.

Following the carnival, the Inglis HTBA Scone Select Yearling Sale will be held on Sunday 17 May, where the half-sister to today's Flemington stakes winner Manapine will be offered as Lot 75 from the draft of Arrowfield Stud.

A $200,000 purchase from the draft of Arrowfield Stud at the 2013 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, trainer of Manpine (Manhattan Rain x Anapine) won the Listed Galilee Series Final. Trainer Nigel Blackiston may aim the gelding at the Group 1 South Australian Derby next month.

"This was always the plan to come here and see where we measure up," said Blackiston.

“It was his first time over the trip today and he was strong to the line and hopefully he can go on to bigger and better things,” Blackiston said.

Other upcoming sales include 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale on 3, 4, 5 and 6 May, noteworthy today after Criterion’s stellar win in The Championships' headline event, the Group 1 ATC $4,000,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Owner and breeder Sir Owen Glenn purchased Mica’s Pride, the dam of Criterion from Inglis in 2009, before sending her to Sebring to produce today’s winner.
