Experience The Upside Of An Inglis Broodmare

Eight final supplementary Lots have been added to the 2016 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale catalogue including weanlings by Snitzel and Not a Single Doubt and a mare in foal to Redoute’s Choice.

As inspections underway at Newmarket, strong performances this season from Kermadec, Japonisme, Yankee Rose and Extreme Choice, plus a sale-topping yearling last month, highlight the opportunities that lie within an Inglis Broodmare catalogue.

Earner of nearly $3 million, Kermadec’s first trip through a sale ring was in 2011, when his dam Hy Fuji carried him in-utero at the Inglis Broodmare Sale in Sydney. Des Hawkins of Wentwood Grange went to $46,000 for the mare before taking her to New Zealand where she foaled down the son of Teofilo.

Another mare whose value has skyrocketed after being sold in Sydney is Condesaar, the dam of this year’s brilliant ATC Sires’ Produce winner and crowd favourite Yankee Rose. A half-sister to New Zealand Derby winner Redoute’s Dancer and in foal to Magic Albert, Condesaar was snapped up by Jonathan Davies of JD Thoroughbreds for $6,000 at last year’s Broodmare sale.

“The upside to Condesaar is obvious, but the other five mares I purchased last year are improving all the time also, including Western Belle which won her second start with us and is now sister in blood to this month's WA Derby winner Arcadia Dream,” Davies said.

“It’s certainly a great sale. Last year I had two mares on my shortlist and came home with six,” said Davies.

Stepping into the ring at Newmarket for a second time are the dams of Blue Diamond winner Extreme Choice and Coolmore Stakes victor Japonisme. Extremely was purchased carrying Extreme Choice at the 2013 sale by Bell River Thoroughbreds, who are dispersing all their breeding stock at this year’s sale including Extremely (Lot 311) carrying a full-relation to her 2016 Blue Diamond Stakes winner. Japonisme was a yearling when his dam went through the Inglis Broodmare Sale in 2014 and now the producer of a Group 1 winner Haiku will be offered as Lot 783 next week.

Other Group 1 winners this season whose dams have been sold at an Inglis Broodmare Sale include Boban, Peeping and Le Romain, which join greats Black Caviar, Criterion, So You Think, Sepoy and Alboran Sea.

The opportunities that avail themselves with the purchase of an Inglis broodmare don’t stop at racetrack results, with this year’s $700,000 sale-topping yearling at Inglis Premier out of Inglis Broodmare purchase Beauty World.

Leading Bloodstock Agent Damon Gabbedy secured the mare at the 2012 sale for $50,000 just as her second stakeswinner Hi World was a weanling, and she was months from foaling down another, Lite'n In My Veins.

The 2011 sale saw Rosemont Stud purchase Lady’s Light carrying subsequent South African Champion Three-year-old Alboran Sea. The upside continutes for the mare with her yearling being secured this year for $540,000 by Gai Waterhouse and Julian Blaxland.

Other impressive yearling sale results were achieved by 2014 Broodmare purchases Russeting and Jester’s Girl. Russeting was purchased by Coolmore Stud in foal to So You Think for $390,000, with the resultant filly the highest-price yearling by her sire to be sold in 2016, when secured by Gerald Ryan and Jadeskye Racing for $430,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. After her purchase in foal to Sebring for $310,000 from Tyreel Stud’s unreserved dispersal in 2014, Jester’s Girl’s yearling colt sold this year for $420,000 to China Horse Club and Winstar Farm at Easter.

888 Lots, including 667 fillies and mares have been catalogued for the 2016 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale to be held at Inglis’ Newmarket Complex on 1, 2, 3 and 4 May.
