Inglis Classic Book Two and Autumn Thoroughbred Sale Conclude Spectacular Week At Newmarket

89% clearance and a 48% jump in gross was achieved by Book Two of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale on another glorious Autumn day at Newmarket. Trainers and syndicators from across the Eastern Seaboard competed for more than 80 yearlings, with the top price of $42,000 being reached by Lot 65 (pictured), a son of Australian Derby winner Roman Emperor out of Group 1-placed Miss Meliss. The colt was offered by Princes Farm, the sale’s leading vendor by average and one of 16 vendors to achieve 100% clearance through the ring.

“Our horses were well-received, we’re really pleased with the results today,” said Anthony Cummings on behalf of Princes Farm.

Paul Perry was leading buyer, outlaying $85,000 on three lots, including Lot 81 from Think Big Stud. The daughter of Uncle Mo, which was offered as part of the stud’s reduction of 48 horses this week, was secured for $40,000.

No stranger to success with Classic Sale graduates, having trained Choisir, the first Australian-bred horse to stride to victory at the famed Royal Ascot meeting, Perry was pleased with today’s purchases.

“I was purchasing today for a client and I was impressed with what I saw on the grounds,” said Perry.

“I was particularly taken with the Ilovethiscity colt (Lot 61), and thought he was good value. I’m looking forward to training them all,” Perry said.

Lot 61 was one of seven yearlings sold by another of today’s leading vendors, Torryburn Stud, who also offered yearlings by I Am Invincible, So You Think and All American.

“We brought some lovely pedigreed horses to this sale that for one reason or other just needed a little more time and didn't make the first tier sales. This combined with good X-ray results meant they were good racing propositions and sold accordingly,” said Torryburn’s Melanie Hill.

Following on from the Yearling Sale the Autumn Thoroughbred Sale, which was topped by lightly-raced three-year-old Whirlwind Ascent (Lot 132), from the family of Desert War. The gelding, which will head to Muswellbrook trainer Mark Schmetzer, was offered as part of Gooree Park Stud’s unreserved reduction this week of 70 horses, and was secured by John Mullins’ Bonville Thoroughbreds for $48,000.

The sale reached an impressive clearance rate of 97%, with the trade of 36 broodmares, yearlings and racing stock concluding an outstanding week at Newmarket.

“We are delighted to have facilitated the trade of over 800 horses this week in Sydney. We’ve been treated to some beautiful weather and some outstanding yearlings, breeding and racing stock,” said Inglis National Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“We thank all the vendors for entrusting us with some truly premium products and for our extensive buying bench for their ongoing support,” D’Arcy added.
