The great joys of racehorse ownership were clear to see at Cranbourne Turf Club tonight as the Henry Dwyer trained If Not Now When flew late to win the $100,000 Inglis VOBIS Gold Plate.
The filly’s huge ownership group were on hand to accept the lucrative spoils that went with the victory, If Not Now When’s second win from as many starts.
“We got a lot of her owners to Bendigo for her debut, but those who missed it have come out in force tonight and we’re all very happy,” said trainer Henry Dwyer.
The stylish daughter of Artie Schiller settled back in the field and although If Not Now When took a while to balance up coming around the home bend, the filly hit the line hard to defy Rata Tat Tat and Perpetual Crisis in a close finish.
“She’s a very professional filly and has great endeavour, which is her best attribute. She was a bit further back than we wanted to be, but once she balanced up she pinned her ears back and had a real good dip, which is the sign of a good filly,” added Dwyer.
Dwyer suggested the filly will stay in work towards some more lucrative races saying “there’s another VOBIS Gold race at Caulfield in a fortnight or a Listed race in Adelaide.”
If Not When (Artie Schiller x Predestined) was a $15,000 purchase by Henry Dwyer from the draft of Musk Creek Farm at the 2015 Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale. Tonight’s victory takes her earnings to $234,500.
In addition to the prizemoney, Henry Dwyer received a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars valued at $3,000. Jockey Michael Dee and If Not Now When’s managing owner also received an exclusive piece of Antler Luggage valued at $544.
The result puts forward the question to everyone looking to get involved in racehorse ownership – if not now, when?
