Sertorius, the group-winning son of shuttle stallion Galileo again proved his staying power in the Group 3 Easter Cup at Caulfield, leading home a trifecta of Inglis graduates beating Escado and Shoreham.
Sertorius (Galileo x Pretty Penny) was bred and sold by Glentree Downs at the 2009 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale for $100,000. Purchased by his trainers Jamie Edwards and Bruce Elkington, the sever-year-old has now earned over $1,200,000 in prize money for his connections, having won or placed in 24 out of his 37 career starts.
Co-trainer Jamie Edwards was quietly confident after the favourite ran an impressive second place in his last start in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes at Flemington.
“This is his grade, but I thought his run in the Blamey was super and he was tough today,” said Edwards.
“He’s rising eight and he’s going as good ever,” Edwards said.
Jockey Noel Callow was impressed by the power Sertorius displayed today, and gave him a glowing review after his first race on the gelding.
“I was a pair back than what I wanted to be. But I got cover down the back and it worked to my advantage because he’s a dead-set stayer this horse,” said Callow.
“He just keeps coming on,” Callow said.
The Championships Day One has been postponed until Monday 6 April.
The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale will commence 11am on Tuesday 7 April, and Wednesday and Thursday 8 and 9 April.
