Trainers Lured By Inglis Juvenile Riches

With $500,000 prizemoney, black type status and additional prizes from Swarovski and Antler, 29 two-year-olds from Australia’s leading trainers will step out to contest the next instalments of the Inglis Race Series this Saturday. The RL Inglis Classic at Randwick and the RL Inglis Premier at Caulfield will be run 25 minutes apart, both over over 1200m.

Each of the races continue to grow in prestige, and it is no surprise with such lucrative winnings on offer and the honour roll of subsequent Group 1 stars that have launched their careers including Choisir, Snitzerland and Peggy Jean.

The $250,000 RL Inglis Classic race will be run at 3:05pm over 1200m at Royal Randwick, with 16 juveniles set to line up including seven with trainers that have won the race in the past.

The dynamic trainer-owner duo of Chris Waller and CC Lai will start Wonderful Story. After winning his Rosehill trial on Monday, both Waller and Lai will be hopeful the colt can start his career with a black type victory on Saturday, and one day join the likes of their recent Group 1 winning Inglis graduates Delectation and Good Project.

Newcastle trainer Paul Perry saddles up promising colt Walk Right In. Winner of his last two starts, the colt can join the ranks of subsequent dual hemisphere-Group 1 winner Choisir, which Perry trained to victory in the 2002 edition of the Inglis Classic race.

The Lindsay Park-trained colt Rampage will be one to watch, having already secured enough prizemoney for Blue Diamond entry. David Hayes and Tom Dabernig will be hoping to add another victory before his Group 1 run, both for the confidence of the horse and benefit of the owners.

Another trainer making the trip north for the race is Mornington trainer Sam Pritchard-Gordon. His filly Soviet Secret was a narrow second on debut in November, with the trainer confident she is sharp enough to go one better on Saturday.

25 minutes later at 3:30pm the $250,000 RL Inglis Premier race will take place over 1200m at Caulfield, perfectly positioned three weeks before the Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes over the same course and distance. With first place prizemoney from the Inglis Premier counting towards the Blue Diamond, victory this Saturday almost guarantees the winner a position in the field for Victoria’s $1 million two-year-old feature on 27 February.

Trainers across the country have accepted for 13 of their most promising two-year-olds for the $250,000 RL Inglis Premier on Saturday.

Hawkes Racing, who are no strangers to Inglis Race Series riches, will start Solo Lane from barrier 2. The dual-state team previously won the race in 2013 with Gold Force, the same year they won the Golden Slipper with Inglis Nursery winner and Inglis graduate Mossfun.

Tony McEvoy, who trained the quinella of the 2015 edition, will be aiming for a similar result on Saturday with his promising youngsters Hey Doc and Lessyd, which ran one-two over 1100m at Flemington last month.

Peter Moody has two hopefuls in the race with Nasdex and unbeaten colt Hell Of An Effort, which is fresh off a spell after winning at the same track and distance on Boxing Day.

Star Thoroughbreds signed for one filly at last year’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and the Chris Waller trained juvenile, named Gretna, is set to make her racetrack debut in the Inglis Premier race on Saturday.

In addition to the $250,0000 race prizemoney on offer, the winning trainer of both the Inglis Classic and Inglis Premier races will receive a set of Swarovski Optik EL 42 Swarovision binoculars valued at $3,000. The winning jockeys and the managing owners will also receive an exclusive piece of Antler Luggage valued at $544.

Following racing at Randwick, racegoers and trainers are welcome to head up to the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at Newmarket on one of the courtesy busses Inglis will provide.

Selling will kick off at 6.00pm with 110 Lots set to be auctioned at the evening session of the sale.
